Priming brass with rockchucker?

I have a rockchucker & I haven't used it much but would like to start using it to work up loads before switching to the xl 650 & mass producing.

Is it worth buying the rcbs priming system or would a hand priming system be better?

I have a RC and prefer priming with the Lee hand auto prime.

Doesn't the press come with a little on the press primer?
I've never used mine but I've used them on the Lee presses and they work fine.
I have an RCBS hand primer and use to use it a lot before I switched to a progressive. Never cared for hand priming much.

I use the RC press to prime my cases. The press came with the priming set-up. The primer feed tube can be a little finicky transferring the primer to the cup when the primer feed tube starts running low on primers (less than 5), but otherwise it works fine. I don't have any reason to change.

Mine has a priming arm built in. I don't have a feed tube, so every single primer goes onto the arm by hand.

Hand prime. You will see better accuracy. You can do it while watching TV or whatever. It is fast, easy and you get a better feel so you can sort out too hard or easy ones. You will have better accuracy. There was an article in the NRA Rifleman mag years ago that showed this and I found it to be true. I use to prime on my RC but not anymore. The hand priming is better. The RCBS unit is good but I started when they did not have one with the tray built in so I went with the lee unit. If you get the lee unit be sure to lube it or the pot metal will wear out. They will wear anyway but not as fast. I have 2 which allows for one for large and one for small primers. I am on my 5th one. They are cheap so not a big deal when they wear out. Please note I do allot of loading compared to the average person

You can prime properly on a Rock Chucker, I did to start. I went to the RCBS bench priming system after a while and never looked back. It offers great feel and is very consistent when seating the primers and is not finicky at all. Well worth it if you plan on doing much single stage work.

I use the rockchucker to deprime and resize brass. Universal rcbs hand prime, everything goes bang, unless you load a primer upsidedown like my son does.

That is how I learned many many moons ago. Have a hand prime now, but still think of using the arm on occasion.

HAND prime... I was messing with one today. Damn what a PITA that would be to prime on the rock chucker...


MAYBE it is only an issue on the one that I saw, BUT it seems that he only had the priming arm that goes back and forth in the ram, and then when I noticed that if I put the handle up all the way (upstroke?) the ram came down and seemed to lock with the shell holder, then on the down stroke as the ram moved up, it was still connected to the priming arm and it pulled the shellholder forward and locked completely. SO, maybe it needs adjustment, but I said, bro just use the hand primer you got.
