Name this head stamp (308)

So I traded my buddy 2 (5.56) for 1 (.308)

He said it was federal stuff but the head stamps say win...

So Im wondering what exact ammo I have. Kind of important being Im planning on using this ammo for a LR match sometime this summer. Being my hand loads still need some tuning before they are comp ready and I need to get some ballistics info from it to get a DOPE card up and running at least to get me ball parked for the event..

Is this POS white box stuff, mid range or good stuff?


I cant seem to find any info on these rounds. If this is POS stuff I kinda feel duped now being I already have a ton of Win White box 145gr POS for the brass and traded good 5.56 (2 per) actually for this.


I've only found one thread talking about its performance but it doesn't sound like hes much of a LR shooter and the rifle isnt exactly precision being he said he was getting 2 MOA @ 100 (which was good for him) with Black hills

I have loaded magtec a lot. That last a fair amount. Not great but not bad. Brazilian's or known for superior AsZ, not brass.

Am I looking at decent groups to even bother taking this to a 600 yard match?


Or try to get my hand loads done (not easy for me at the moment)

I just want to have it land where I point. I don't expect flawless lasers but at least zero decent and not have 4" flyers and embarrass my self out there.

Magtech CBC that you have there is more or less surplus rounds. No way in hell its going to come close to Fed. match ammo. If you got it cheap then don't worry about it but if you paid for premium ammo I would get my money back.

I've only shot CBC through an IDF Mauser and M1A and didn't find it to be anything better than surplus.

However, the worst thing about the ammo was that in all 3 IDF Mausers the bolt had to be slapped open to extract the case. This doesn't happen with any other commercial ammo so far. It also wouldn't cycle in the M1A.

I won't shoot that stuff in M1A much less my 700.

BTW - If it was represented as Fed Match, you got hosed.

How are the ammo boxes marked or was it just sold loose? Maybe it was re-packaged.

Pull a bullet and weigh it. If it's a 145-150 gr. FMJ, it's just Military ball ammo that won't be accurate enough for your 600 yard match.

It's very likely the bullet is the 150 gr. FMJ and the ammo is Military ball ammo.

Was it sold to you as Federal 168 or 175 grain match ammo?

It was sold loose in white plastic holders.

My buddy came to a range and had very little 5.56 and only a AR. I had a good amount of 5.56 and a 700 and he saw that and said I have spare 308 I don't need ill trade your 1 for 1 5.56/308 I asked what it was and he said federal.. I forgot the exact convo but assumed it was math the way he described it so I offered 2 for 1 to be fair.

And I know it hasn't been reloaded. So what ever its stamped is what it is.

And this will be shot out of my 700...
