    powder measure/scale upgrade?

I have a Dillon 650xl and the powder measure (by volume) doesn't quite fit my OCD nature when working up a smaller batch. I've heard some of the ideas of small vibratory pump on side of reservior, extra tap on each throw and after a previous question here found out that once all stages are running the beast gets pretty consistant. I've confirmed that by running several cases through and pulled them before adding a bullet, weighed the powder and it's all good.

What I'm looking for now is a recomendation on best way to handle small batches. Scoop and weigh? Some other auto drop for a single stage?

    Help please. Thanks in advance

If you are looking for really precise and/or OCD, try a powder trickler.

Surely you can't possibly be talking about a blue machine...

If I understand this problem correctly, then your problem will be with any other powder dropper that you use too unless you actually control it. Warthog prolly has a good idea, try a trickler. Get an RCBS or a Hornady though...

I use a single stage and hand weigh each charge for all of my match rounds.

Lats night I bought a small vibrating 3v dc motor like the ones that were in the old pagers http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2914700, a Micro switch with a roller & Lever http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2049719, and a battery case http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062252.

I'm going to bend up a bracket for my old CH Magnum press so when you raise the platform to expand and powder fill the platform trips the lever and the motor vibrates the powder measure to help fill the cavity esp on smaller volume loads. Not sure if I should set it up to trip a short shake on the way up and stop or to vibrate the whole time the platform is raised, any suggestions?

I use a plastic spoon and a rcbs funnel/measuring tray combo thing on top of my electronic scale for my rifle calibers.

Although consistency helps in getting the same powder weight I.e. working the measurer the same way each time (& a baffle). The cutting of the powder column is where your your variation comes from . A crunchy cut will not be as consistent as a smooth cut. Approach your desired weight then trickle to meet your load as someone stated above.

                So here's my update.
I picked up a trickle charger to get the exact .1 of a grain and started weighing each drop, adjusting and loading.

As others relayed, Dillion progressive is most accurate when working with a consistent rhythm. First pull after sitting for a few minutes is always +.2 heavy. Next one may or may not be short and by the third pull and there after, is spot on. I'm considering the little vibratory idea posted previously but would probably just leave it on continuously. The start and stop seems like it might open up the possibility of inconsistency. The tap idea is out just because... Sorry. At this point I think I'll just pitch the first two drops back into the hopper and remember they will be primed and then hand feed them into powder drop at the end of the batch.

Here's where it gets interesting to me. I get out to the range to measure the FPS on these new work ups and KNOW they are all exactly the same drop weight, bullet size, OAL and batch of brass and I get less of a range of FPS. This whole thing started for me cuz I was getting a variation of 90 FPS (in a 750 fps expected load) in previous measurements. With total accuracy on the powder weight, NOW I'm getting a range of about 50fps or so. Not really worth the time it takes to trickle a few rounds.
I think if I take out those first two drops from a session or two from any time I stand down for a primer refill or bathroom break then I should be gtg. And really, this is only a concern if I'm working on the upper end of a max charge.

                Thoughts anyone?
