    Reloading .40 & .45

Just getting back to reloading after a long time.
Looking for your favorite recipes shooting .40 & .45 for a Glock 27 & 30 at the range. Nothing special.
    Thanks for your opinions!

look up winchester powders 231 or hodgons hp-38 they have a website that has laods and bullet/type wts so you can pick what you want.

    Me I do not load 40 but 45 acp is 231/hp-38 @ 5.5gr OAL 1.260, 200 gr Lead SWC crimp to .472

I use unique on my 40 so far and it works great... the new formula is 100x cleaner than the old formula. I know I have a bottle of the old stuff and new stuff to compare the two... I shoot the lee 175gr LSWC out of it and cycles and accuracy isnt bad

For target shooting, I would just use Bullseye. It meters better than Unique, you will use slightly less per round than most others (a little bit more cost effective for the cheap screws in the crowd), very accurate powder.

W231/HP-38 is another well metering and versatile powder.

          Good luck, welcome back.

I just changed over from hp-38 to reddot for 45acp, and I love the stuff.

I like Titegroup and bullseye, cheap, meters well, accurate enough for me.

Subscribing to this topic. I'm planning on reloading .40 too.

                Has anyone used Clays?

I use universal clays for 40 and 9mm not quite the same as clays.

I run 5.2 gns of Unique topped with a 180 LRN MBC, or 4.4 gns of W231 with a 180 LRN MBC for my .40.

I've found WSF to work well for my .40 loads using cast projectiles.
Doesn't smoke as bad as the bullseye I was trying to use up.
5.5gr wsf under a 180gr cast tcfp works good for me.
I use the egw undersize die.
Helps get the glock bulge out of range pickup brass.

                      For bullseye I tried 4.3gr and 4.6gr under a cast 180gr.
4.3 was mild, but I had a couple stovepipes out of about 400rds.
                      4.6 has been 100% reliable.

As with any load data from the internet, take it for what its worth.
Work up your own loads and see what works best for you and your gun.

.45 acp and bullseye. It's a marriage made in heaven.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

I had the same questions a couple years ago and settled on buying two 8 pounders of Bullseye for .45 and the same quantity of Power Pistol for 9mm and .40 S&W. No regrets. Of course, I feel pretty smug in light of the shortages we see now. I had some issues that drew me away from shooting and loading (but not carrying) and like you am just now getting back in.

One seldom mentioned sleeper is Green Dot, which I used as a substitute on .45 for a bit and really liked.

The context of my choices is that I don't use lead bullets and have never found the opportunity to buy the W231 that so many swear by, usually in conjunction with LSWC bullets. I use only jacketed so far.
