Im about to buy a shooting chrony. I just wanted to hear from people who have them. Is the F1 fine, or is it worth the exstra money for the alpha, or the beta models?

which shooting chrony to get?

Whatever you get, I strongly recommend you get the "master" version of the model.
I got a Beta Master, but only because it was on sale with an additional discount for about $100. If I had to get an F1 master, I would have been fine with that.
The memories are nice, but I record all shots in a notebook and transfer them to a computer with Excel where I set it up to calculate Lo, Hi, Av, Ex Spread and Std Dev automatically anyway. This way I have a permanent table of all shots chronied including dates and temperatures and sorted by caliber.
The reason I recommend the master model is that if you shoot at a range, you really value the remote head where you can operate it while the range is hot. Of course if all you need is the speed of the last shot and you have good eyes, you might get by without the remote.Comment

I have two chrony's, one has a remote head on the bench, records everything automatically, automatically calculates all ES, SD, etc. data and downloads all stored strings to my excel spreadsheet. This makes record keeping super fast.
The other chrony I have does record stings, but to switch strings, delete a shot, etc. I have to push a button on the face (not possible when shooting at a hot public range) and does no calcs, etc. I have to write each shot down on a note pad, manually transfer it to excel. It is just more time consuming using this type of setup. When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."Comment

Get one with a remote display that you can place where you are shooting. If you use it at a range and you get an error. It's nice to be able to clear the error from the bench and not have to wait until cease fire and walk out to the unit to reset or clear an error.Comment

I have a chrony with the printer attachment but i saw some guys using a magneto speed down at pala and it is awesome and about the same proce as my chrony with printer. Useless for pistol but rifle and revolver it looks great.I support peace through superior firepower.

Knowing what I know now, how do you parse through your information in excel? I wonder if you should move to a database instead. :\
I think it might also work for the Deagle. Which was why I was looking at one...7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...
