I'm willing to bet that you have it directly connected to household current that fluctuates, right? First, use a UPS to stabilize the fluctuating power. Then, you need to warm it up for a while. Most people I know warm theirs up for hours, days or just leave them on. You'll also need to look around your balance for other things that will cause it to fluctuate. You need to remove florescent lights, speakers, magnets, phones, cel phones, etc. from the area around you electronic balance and keep it away from the slightest breezes too.

That said, any analog scale should work just fine. I have a couple RCBS ones and a Dillion one too. I normally use a Denver Instrument electronic balance or my RCBS chargemaster combo though.
Hey CSA, having used the chargemaster combo, what are your thoughts on it?
I had my eye on that particular model.

Great tip on a UPS! Makes total sense.

I also have a Hornady elctronic scale. It has only acted up once on me.
I turned it off, turned it back on after turning off the radio and any interference that may cause any vibration, recalibrated and it is right on the money. I check it occationally with my older RCBS scale. Could not be any happier with it.

the cheapy hornady scale had way more consistent readings then the gempro. I'm a environmental/civil engineer and have lab equipment too. this thing is a joke. for 150 dollars, no way. customer service is excellent tho!!

Hell I paid $20 for amost the same scale on Amazon, and it was the same way. If it levelled off properly, it was accurate as heck. But if you weighed a heavy weight (I bought a series of weights for calibrating it, and other scalse and a Lee analog scale) - as you mentioned - it would sometimes not return to zero and be off by large amount 2-4 grains!

One of the other reloader forums mentioned Styrofoam has static electricity and could affect beam scales.
