In CA it could be a buy now or wish you had later thing at some point in the future :-(This might not be feasible for me as I will soon be a broke college student. Right now I am working just enough to pay for my car insurance and gas for my car (Thankfully I have loving parents that pay for most of my other expenses). It would take me over 2 months to save up for purchasing everything while paying my car expenses.Comment

Honestly I am new to the whole gun thing so would you mind explaining to me what exactly that is? All I know right now is that I want an AR lower, but since I cannot buy a lower I would need an 80% so that part I kinda get. but what is 7075 billet?WTS AR-15 Parts: BCG, CH, Buffer tube kit, M4 Stock, Blackhawk! All 80% lowers are not created equal.
7075 = Type of Aluminium used to make the lower. This is the milspec material, with 6061 being the other commonly used material. Do a google on '7075 vs 6061 for AR lowers' for additional info.
Billet in this case means means cut from bar stock. Do a google on 'forged vs billet for AR lowers' for additional info.Comment

Lowers (and uppers) come as cast or billet, billet block can also be forged. Billet is a block of aluminum that is CNC machined to shape, forged is "stamped" to shape.. Cast is cast from molten into the correct shape. I favor machined billet, some say forged, either is fine really. Forged may be stronger, but that is a moot point in my experience. Cast are not typical anymore.Last edited by GeoffLinder; 05-10-2013, 8:29 PM.Comment

I have never heard of cast lower. But you do find one, avoid them. Cast aluminium typically have voids in them and it unsuitable for AR15 Lower.
A properly tempered forged 7075 is almost twice as strong as 6061. 6061 is easier to machine and it's easier on the cutting tool. 6061 deal is the new trend started by small operation mfg that are just recently jumped into the band wagon of AR15 craze. Probably due to the shortage of mil-spec 7075 forged lower. However, like someone has already point out, if you are not going to war either 7075 or 6061 will work. But, if this is your STHF gun, you should get 7075 forged.

A lot of AR's were made from cast in the 60's through the early 80's still a few being done that way, just not very often found. Serviceable, just not the strongest.Comment
