    Question about RCBS Rockchucker

So I purchased Rockchucker Supreme Master Kit recently, but also purchase the Redding T-7 Turret press as a Turret press was my desire from the beginning. I began really thinking and have decided that I really would like to get an AR 15 lower to create my own AR15. Would it be possible to find someone that would trade a lower for the Rockchucker? Or is that asking too much?Should I keep the RockChucker to compliment my Turret? What is the use of having the extra press?

Before answering let me give you a little information. I currently reside in Sacramento, but will soon be heading off to college(Yes I am in High School). This college is in San Luis Obispo, and since I will be living in a dorm I am not allowed to bring firearms or my reloading stuff. I will be home every weekend for family obligations though.

    Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't trade a lower for a RC, but maybe someone would. The RC is worth, what, like $130. Aren't lowers still real hard to find? I don't keep up on this stuff but if they are on the shelves again maybe you could get someone to trade.

But don't you have to be 21 to buy a stripped lower?

I am unaware of that age restriction. I believe I've been seeing the presses go for upwards of $200 which is ridiculous and price gouging but I figure the same is happening with lowers. I was just wondering everyone's opinion and if it would be possible.

May be worth a shot if press prices are that high. You can probably get a plastic lower for it.

But I'm 99% sure you have to be 21 to buy a stripped lower. You could consider the 80% route.

I'm getting mixed answers online for the stripped lower but will continue to look. How does the whole 80% thing work?

In CA - 18 for rifle/shotgun and 21 for handgun

Edit - Seems like there could be an ATF rule about being 21. Trying to find that now. You live and you learn.

Yep. Just found it on the Form 4473

                Section B Question 18

"If a frame or receiver can only be made into a long gun (rifle or shotgun), it is still a frame or receiver not a handgun or long gun. However, they still are "firearms" by definition, and subject to the same GCA limitations as any other firearms. See Section 921(a)(3)(b). 18 U.S.C. Section 922(b)(1) makes it unlawful for a licensee to sell any firearm other than a shotgun or rifle to any person under the age of 21. Since a frame or receiver for a firearm, to include one that can only be made into a long gun, is a "firearm other than a shotgun or rifle," it cannot be transferred to anyone under the age of 21. Also, note that multiple sales forms are not required for frames or receivers of any firearms, or pistol grip firearms, since they are not "pistols or revolvers" under Section 923(g)(3)(a)."

I would sell the RC and get your money back and work on buying an AR Rifle.

What would I use it for? and by then it won't be the same price as now would it?

Keep the extra press, you might need it later.

Keep the press AND get an 80% lower then finish it out. A finished striped upper (no BCG or charge handle) can be had for about 500.

Palmetto Arms has a couple options available right now.

You will need about 4-500 more in parts to finish out the upper and 80% lower (stock, lower parts kit, buffer/spring, bolt carrier group and charging handle).

This might not be feasible for me as I will soon be a broke college student. Right now I am working just enough to pay for my car insurance and gas for my car (Thankfully I have loving parents that pay for most of my other expenses). It would take me over 2 months to save up for purchasing everything while paying my car expenses.
