I should not have opened this thread, I have been thinking about casting for a few months since reloading turned out to be so far beyond my expectations when I started a year ago.

The lube helps the lead boolit from leading the bore.

The groove for the lube needs to be filled with lube.

Unless you are using alox for tumble lubing.

When you tumble lube with alox....the whole boolit gets coated with lube.

tumble lube is pretty much only made by lee but you can tumble lube regular bullets you just want a little something between the lead and your bore the lube makes it feel like you are shooting blackpowder sometimes but it smells like potpourii instead of demon farts

I would think that if I were to tumble lube regular bullets, it would affect its accuracy compared lubing and sizing them.

Any chance you know a place to obtain molds because ebay prices are beyond ridicules and everywhere else is backordered till next month.

ive not seen convincing evidence but i size my bullets with the lee push through sizer

as with ammo right now molds are a bit in demand just wait in line you will get one eventually i got mine from natchez and midway

you have to be more careful with aluminum molds they can be damaged more easily

Tumble lubing is a method, not a bullet, so it works with conventional lube grooves or the not as desireable TL designs by Lee. I like to lube & size, every bullet is the same dia. A long period of casting can produce diff as cast size bullets. This can be an issue w/ fit using mixed brass in any caliber. Best luber/sizer ont he market, Star/magma hands down. Yes they are expensive, but easily 2-3x faster than a Lyman or RCBS, well worth the cost IMO.

If you can't get a reliable/affordable lead supply, you aren't saving much & having to spend quite a bit of time casting. As noted in an earlier post, good bases are the most important thing to proper diameter. Mess the base up, the bullet won't shoot well.

I see, because one thing that Im having problems with is the base.

thing to check:

add tin to lead. if not near 2%, add some. If near 2%, you're done.

Mold heat. Get mold raging hot. To the point where it takes 6-8 seconds for the sprue to solidify. If that doesnt do it,

inspect the mold blocks. Is the top edge sharp? then the base needs a vent. Take some fine wetsandpaper and GENTLY break the edge. That will help base fillout.

Casting allows me to get bullets that are not available for purchase at any price.

Just like reloading gets me lead-free 7x57 for less than $90 a box, casting gets me bullets that are NOT POSSIBLE to buy.
