I keep breaking decapping tool(s)

My first set of dies were RCBS and I broke that stupid pin a few times. Threw the set in the closet never to see the light of day again and bought a Lee set and have been using Lee ever since and have never broken a pin. The Lee dies don't allow you to brake them, they just will push up the top of the die if you run across a berdan case. Saved me many times over the years.

Probably aren't centering the base of the case or need to check if the depriming pin is secured. Any way call rcbs and they will send you some for free, i had a hassle free experience.

Are you sure they are not Berdan primers?

I punched a hole through a 22lr with my decapper and then proceeded to decap hundredes of shells before I decided to see wtf was stuck inside.

Then while decapping a berdan 30-30 I "RESET IT" three times before I torqued it so hard it broke on the 4th attempt. Then I realized it was berdan...

The Lee Universal decapping die is what I have been using ever since I broke a half dozen rcbs pins on crimped primers in my early days or reloading. The Lee is the best universal out there.

Decapps all calibers. Has a special decapping pin that goes up and can be reset rather than break. Haven't had any problem with crimped primers in either .223 or .308 and I just did 500 .308.

Half the posts here didn't realize the shells were Berden primed.
There are a ton of threads about Berden primer, they are mentioned in every reloading book I have..

This happens when you don't read the posts in a thread.

All fixed now. I am gonna closely examine any brass that is stamped 7.62. I am gonna toss the stuff I have. Sad as it's so bright and shinny.
Lesson learned.

Issues with RCBS dies

I process thousands of rounds so my take on things may be a little different from those that just do a few hundred at a time. I recently bought my first set of RCBS dies since I could not find Lee or Dillon in stock and I needed them quickly. The design of the RCBS dies is not nearly as sturdy as a Lee or Dillon.
RCBS has a small sleeve that holds the decap bin in place. The sleeve is made of what looks like aluminum, but whatever it is it is not strong enough. I ran maybe 1000 rounds of .223 through just decapping and swaging them on my 1050. The sleeve bent and I had an extra pin so I replaced it. With-in 500 or so more rounds the same result...bent pin. I changed to Lee dies and have run over 7K without issue. I just do not like the design of those dies.
