Tumbling Brass

[What Just Happened?]

Um... I do kinda feel retarded asking this, but I'm new to reloading and all that. So how long should I tumble brass? I'm using walnut from a pet store and a cap full of Nu-Finish.

Couple of hours.

You can do it overnite too if you want freaking shiny brass....

Don't overload the tumbler either... if the brass isn't moving freely in the media, it will take a LOT longer.

Speaking from experience, it turns out 120 pieces of .300 Wby brass is 'too much' for the tumbler I use.

I usually go overnite at least - I tumble 100 - 200 .308s @ 1 time and am anal about shiny brass

Just tumble enough to clean up the necks. Anything more is just for looks. I usually go for an hour or two with newer media. As the media "wears", it'll take longer.

Ah, no wonder I wasn't noticing much of a difference, I was thinking of 30 - 45 minutes. Well, I guess that'll have to change.

I do 2 hours with that exact setup. I also save my used dryer sheets and add one (cut into about 6 pieces) to the media. Helps keep the dust down and the media cleaner through multiple batches.

i tumble used brass for 1 hour to clean it enough to lube/resize/trim, then i tumble for another 2-3 hours to clean the lube/brass chips off and give it a final polish.

p.s. corn cob media polished brass much better than walnut.

I do 2 to 3 hours myself. Just enough to give it a shine and to take off any lube.

Try a little "DILLON RAPID POLISH" It works realy well in PETSMART corncob media. ( nu-finish??? )

Nu-Finish is a car wax that comes in an orange bottle. Works great for brass.

Pretty much what everyone else said.......try putting the nu-finish in and letting it soak up by running the vibrator for awhile. Then add the brass after that. It seems to work better doing it without the brass in it initially.
About 3 hours is usually long enough for rather shiny brass.
