    6.5x257 Roberts/Arisaka load data help

I have a 6.5mm Arisaka that was converted to take .257 Roberts cases.
My father passed it on to me.
He logged lots of load data and I eventually started loading for it many years later.
I got out of the reloading hobby for about 15 years and can't seem to find all my log books with the load data he and I accumulated.
I want to start loading for it again.
We used to use H4895, which I still have a little bit of.
I recently grabbed up a box of Nosler 140gr projectiles to get started.
But I am having a hard time finding any good data, such as start and max loads, as well as OAL and case trim length.
If anybody can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

            Thanks again Capt.
            $140!!!!
            Holy smokes!
I thought they were expensive BITD when I paid like $75!!

On a side note, I have searched high and low about loading for this rifle and some people are saying that you can use load data for the .257 Roberts.
Anybody care to comment on that?

Well, fortunately I have a number of old manuals -- unfortunately I bought them new -
              -
              lyman 41 and 43, speer #5, hodgdons 19 and 21 --

The powdwers listed - and this may be a bit of problem - were:
              Hi-vel, 3031,h380, 4064, 4895,4320,4350,4831, and h570
              bullets 87, 100, 120,140 and 160

Lyman says use 6.5jap loadings for cast bullets --

I did not compare loadings of 6.5x257 with either 6.5jap or 257 -- too much data -

Give me a bullet wt and powder available and i will post the data from any and/or all of the manuals

              my tuppence

                Awesome gunboat!!!
I think I'll stick with H4895 for now, and I have a box of 140gr projectiles.
Could possibly try out some 120gr in the future.
See anything for 140gr using h4895?

                  Just re-read your OP --
                  140 gr using 4895 --
                  Speer -- 34.0gr to 38.0 gr with 2275 to 2500fps
                  Hodgdon == 4831 only -- max 50gr
                  Lyman 41 - 36gr @ 2400fps suggested load -- no max given
                  lyman 43 -- 34gr @ 2280 to 38gr @ 2531 --

Hope this is somewhat useful -

                    Very useful!!!
                    Much appreciated gunboat!
I seem to remember something in the 32gr range as a reduced load I was toying with, but don't want to rely on my memory from 15+ years ago...Haha.
I really appreciate you taking the time and looking all that up.
Hopefully, I will be able to locate my load data at some point.
It is buried away DEEP in the back of my storage unit in a crate with my old load books, dating between 1960 and 1995!!!
Hopefully it is still in there.
In the meantime, I now have something to work with.

Am I old or what ? My dies came from the original smith that did my conversion so they were included in the cost.

And you can use starting loads for 6.5x 55 as a starting point , if you can find the data.

some where I got loads for an 87 grain pill too , talk about a varmit load.

                        Wow. 87gr would be screaming!
I need to find my old load books!
I know that one of them had 6.5x55 and another does have 6.5x257
It'll take me weeks to get to them, if they are where I hope they are in my storage.
Most likely in the very back of a 10'x10' packed space. Haha

Speer and lyman both have loads for 87gr --
The max is about 3250 with 47gr of 4895 --

Sounds like we three are the old geezers -
Probably no one under 60 even heard of a 6.5x257 --
I sold my 6.5 roberts rcbs die set just last month after advertising them literally for months.

Do you still have the rifle gunboat?

No, I actually never had one - I obtained the rcbs dies as new about 30+ years ago in a batch deal.
I am working on a clunker type 38 now but don't think I will re-chamber it.
If I do, I still have an old hollywood 6.5x257 sizer die in the bits and pieces box.
