Yep, but usually only for practice. But I wouldn't hesitate to use my loads, either.

Using pulled HST bullets, I've been able to (almost) replicate the recipe for Federal's 45 HST rounds.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

I was really impressed when I saw hornadys critical duty in 45 acp. The amount of time that went into design must have been extensive.

I should also say I have tested my defence rounds. I have shot them in balistics gel through, car doors, wood, and clothing. I haven't shot them through glass though. The hardest part was finding a powder that could give good velocity with out huge muzzle flash. Something I found really intresting is higher velocities at a certain point can cause less penetration.

I should also say this is currently for home defence and animal protection. Not ccw.

The only caliber I feel I have perfected is 45acp, I am currently working on 9mm and have been for the last few months. I currently buy all my buckshot and slugs but am working on changing that.
I wish I had time to do testing like that. Sounds like a blast. Maybe someday when the kids are off to college

        AYE!

Plus how are they gonna look at me when I tell them that my ammo came from a movie called Exterminators and that I drilled out the centers even more and replaced the lead with mercury so that it would practically explode when I shot someone and then soldered the top shut so that I could fire them out of my gun and carry them without leaking?

They gonna think I am crazy...

I have never heard of that but have always had a fascination with mercury and now I really want to try it

How are you supposed to close it?

now assuming it is possible and can be made, loaded and will safely shoot. The problem I see in shooting it is that the jacket will engage the rifling but the liquid inside won't spin, causing the projectile to be unstable in flight destroying all accuracy.
I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.

I bet the guy in Florida is glad he did not. (because we have not heard he did.)

I personally choose to buy factory ammunition for my self defense loads. I reload a lot of FMJ and lead bullets for my practice though.

I've carried my own stuff out and about, on the streets. I have a medium sized box of boutique SD ammo from years back that I rotate through, just to get my 'money's' worth.

I'm in Miami, so using 'home brew' stuff really isn't an issue for me. It's either a good shoot, or it's not. If it is, I'm barred from any criminal, or civil prosecution.

I could be stuffing rare 'unicorn horns' into my cases and it wouldn't matter.

Defense loads, I use factory. But since it's good to practice with your "defense loads", I make a handload that is very close to the defense load. That's what I practice with, and it saves lots of money.

Once practice is over and the gun is cleaned, the defense load goes right back in.
