I'm not convinced flippers are playing a huge role as much as our legislature and our reasoned fear. Wonder what the collective stash of CalGuns is.

It will end, but slowly. Prices will start to come down and it will work itself out. More and more will be on the shelves for a little bit longer (already happening) and eventually a normal will be reached.

Don't expect it to go all the way down to pre-panic prices. It will stay a bit higher.

I don’t think it’s just the flippers buying up ammo just to resell… I know it’s happening, but I don’t think that’s anywhere close to the root of the cause.

I’m sure many are just stocking up / hording for fear of possible ammo restrictions as well.

I’m sure a portion of private ammo sales are people who were well stocked before this panic, who are selling to make some money.

Either way, if you feel so strongly about it, don’t buy ammo. It’s not easy for anyone right now, and the best way to hurt flippers is simply not to buy.

As demand drops, supply returns, and price comes down.

It seems to me that an enormous number of people have taken up reloading, as well as gun ownership. I know many people that never considered private gn ownership that are now either gun owners or frantically trying to become one.

I know many people who have always proudly stated they did not reload, who are now starting to learn how to reload, frantically looking for components and reloading equipment.

IMHO, this panic really is uncharted territory.

Demand will decrease and supply will catch up with the decreased demand.

              Well said Bill,

              I noticed the same thing.

Every time I see people at the ammo shelves, it's usually new gun owner that weren't prepared and are trying to stock up now. Once everyone gets their fill things will slowly come back to normal. This rate can't be sustained for very long.

Ultimately this is is a good thing, but for the foreseeable future this is partly where the frustration (and problem) lies, especially seeing as how I don't see a whole lot of these recent gun-owners willing to rock the boat or rattle the cage, as far as I can tell.

I don't think there would be half as many politicians and grabbers mouthing off right now, if their constituents and neighbors manned up and told them they're pontificating to a gun owner. Now granted it does take some getting used to and there is, unfortunately, a stigma that the media (and politicians and grabbers) have attached to the hobby, which is probably part of the reason why they tend not to speak up.

I hope I'm wrong as, someone said, there seem to be a few more items on the shelf and, (at the risk of being strangled with my own flag) the vult..., sorry; "gun-owners", selling bricks of .22 for $100 are having to let them go for $60, while it sounds like the legislation rumor mill is coming back in line with reality.

I get the run on guns nationally, especially long guns in the face of federal legislation, which I believe will be defeated. But I don't quite get the run on ammo. Ammo restrictions are only a serious threat in a few states, granted two of them are very large (NY and Cal). Could just the hoarding in a few large states cause this, or are there other forces at play?
Regardless, due to our looming restrictions, I feel this may go on for a while here.

+2 on this, exactly what I see happening. I am guiding several friends through the acquisition process and into reloading right now. They are doing so because they have been sitting on the fence for a while and started to worry that it's now or never time.

Election + shooting + Holiday season and you have a shortage.

It's not speculation on my part, but more people ARE beginning to reload and that also puts a stress on supply.

If ammo returns to normalcy there will be fire sales of reload equipment. I anticipate picking up a sweet Dillon to go with my 550. :-0

What's bugging me is the fact that my local IDPA match had to have a lower round count this weekend because many people just could not get enough ammo to run a full size match.

The new shooter can't get ammo because of shortage, meanwhile, some guy down the road has 10,000 rounds sitting in his safe that he refuses to touch except "in an emergency".

Don't get me wrong, I keep plenty of ammo around my place too but I gradually stocked up over time so I specifically wouldn't screw the guy standing in line behind me in the ammo line.
