Crazy prices on everything....but RELOADING MANUALS?????

I was looking to get the latest Speer manual (No. 14) and I came across this:



Then I started noticing that even on auction sites the bids are pushing $100. They're still ~$25 from Midway but they're out of stock.

Is this panic buying or is there something "special" about this edition?

I got mine for free with my Rock Chucker kit. Plenty of loading data out there. Hell come to think of it, maybe I'll scan the pages I need and put mine up on ebay.

Every other reloading manual on amazon is normally priced and available Amazon Prime.

Sounds like a good plan, just don't go out and by a 30 Year Treasury Bond with your profits, or you will likely be back to the Midway price in value in no time...

I just use www.hodgdon.com for all my data. I write it all down and from there. Keep all my perfected loads written down in a book. I've never needed to use a reloading book. Haha

LoL. Reminds me of when I walked into Bullseye and saw that they had the Hodgdon Manuals listed for either 1.99 or .54 cents on the shelf.

I have seen older manuals fetching high prices. Thankfully, the local used book stores haven't participated in the panic.

The ABC's Of Reloading 8th edition was on amazon for $180 new and $84 used while the 9th edition is listed at $15. Is the 8th that much better than the 9th.

People are crazy. There is no sane reason to spend outrageous prices for a load manual. When the latest manual comes out, the previous one usually goes on clearance. Hodgdon puts out a magazine version of their data every year. Barnes and Noble has them for $8.99. I will be so happy when all this panic crap goes away.

So what happens when the SHTF and computers don't work anymore?

I've pulled and printed all the loads I use from online sites, and have them in a three ring binder with margin (or liner, if you're old) notes.

I also have the target cut-outs with load data hand-written festooning the wall in front of my loading bench.

I'm good to go when it's "lights out"
