    Anyone reload Steel Cased ammo?

Went to Steele Peak today to check my sighting in from Friday on my new upper.

Since it basically snowed and rained the entire time I was there on Friday, I didnt get much trigger time.

The good news was the scope was only a few clicks off at about 300 yards (estimation, need a range finder )

Anyway, I was picking up all my shells (some brass, some steel 223) and .22 brass and just kept cleaning.

Picked up a couple hundred 7.62/39 and around 150 7.65/54 and some additional random crap to throw away. One thing I have never seen was 4 brass shells of good size stuck to a metal clip (no caliber markings).

A lot of it must have been from this weekend because it wasn't even dirty. Some older crap made its way in too, but mostly fresh.

I saw a thread where someone was relading steel cased 223 and I hope to get into reloading one day so I have been keeping all my 223/556 shells. Figured 7.62 may be the same?

So, rambling over, does anyone have a use for this stuff? Or should I make some wall art out of it?

Wall art for steel cases and aluminum.

I wanna take mine and hammer them in and make a cool circular texture with all the cases next to another...

I have not reloaded 223 steel cased ammo, I would fear of damaging dies. Maybe with carbide dies.

Also a lot of steel cases have berdan primers which will cause reloading issues

I have however reloaded Aluminum 45acp
I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.

I have in the past when it was all I could get, but it almost always has a berdan primer and that is a pain. Plenty of lube and it is not that big a thing to re-size it. I would make wall art out of it. M27 there is no such thing as too many cigars.

It can be done, but I wouldn't waste your time. Brass cases last longer, feed better, and are all over any public range. Every time I go to the range, I end up with at least 100-200 rnds of .223 cases, even if I'm not shooting a .223!

Yes it is possible, but like mentioned above watch out for berdan primers.

From left to right is wolf, tula, and last a random russian berdan primer.

              Thanks for the replies guys.

I do not have any reloading equipment, so if anyone wants this stuff let me know. I'll be at Steele Peak this weekend. I even have it sorted by approximate age, condition, and color...and obviously caliber.

Would rather see someone use it than toss it.

Yep, steel's reloadable, as long as it's Boxer-primed. No, it won't last quite as long as brass, but it works just fine.

I got my hands on some Tulammo .357 Magnum. Didn't cost me anything, so I figured, let's just have some fun shootin' this stuff off. Found out it was Boxer primed and decided, "why not?" So far, it's been four reuses (five total, including the first firing), and all but one have held together. Hey, four beats a zilch. But I expect that they'll start going pretty soon.

To prolong case life, I kept the roll crimp to the minimum that I could get away with. Seems to have helped. And yes, my .38/357 resizing die is carbide, plus I gave 'em a little Hornady One-Shot just before running 'em through (had it on-hand already).

For the .223, I see no reason why they shouldn't be reloaded, as long as they use Boxer priming. Berdan 5uxx0rz.

I've reloaded a couple steel cased pistol rounds. The cases get beat up a lot more than brass, and mine were pretty much unusable after 2 reloads, but it worked nonetheless. You just have to watch out for those that use different primers like others have mentioned.

I reload steel for hunting. I even neck it up from 5.56 to 6x45 and I'm on three reloadings so far.

I do not reload any steel cases. Not worth the trouble.

I don’t reload anything steel… I got plenty of brass around so I never found a reason to even consider it…

I suspect it would put additional wear and tear on my dies.
