    Bad advice

So I saw an ad in the FS section last night, offering 1oz cast slugs for sale. OP indicated that your can make your own slug loads at home by removing the birdshot from a factory load and replacing it with one of his slugs. I replied to his post, indicating that it was not my intention to thread crap, and pointed out that what he was suggesting was dangerous and could result in injury. There is a reason that reloading manuals have different load data for slugs.

My post was deleted and the original ad remains, bad advice and all. Was I out of line? It really feels like this place has become a little...over moderated.

You are correct in your concern. Put a link to that post here for all to see is my advice. Then post link there to this thread and see what happens.

Here are some threads from other forums where this being a very bad idea is confirmed:

I'm tired of paying $5-7.00 for a box of 20 gauge slugs. So decided to load my own. I went to range yesterday with a few 20ga slug loads loaded with some cast Lee Modern Minie Target slugs. .575-470gr slugs that I cast. According to Lee they are, "The most accurate of all Minies. Makes nice...

20.00 for 50 1oz slugs. flat rate shipping 6.00 for any quantity. It looks like i can fit all 200 in one small flat rate box if needed.

local pick up in long beach or at turners signal hill on the weekend only. possibly meet at the el segundo / nash street metro station during the week.

paypal add 3% unless you buy all 200 slugs, at which point you can send it to me as a personal gift.

Ive shot these before using the instructions here. anyone can load these. you just take out the lead shot in a birdshot load and pop the slug in.

It was one of the mods that took my warning down. Even made it clear I wasn't trying to crap on the guy's thread.

The OP probably reported your post.
The mods work from the posts being reported by users.
They don't go looking for stuff to delete
The users reporting posts is how most moderation work is initiated.

Just go initiate if yourself on his thread...

Probably depends if they are being lazy...
It's easier to delete than to read.
You don't even need to view a post to delete it in the moderator control panel.

Stepping on crap is not thread crapping. When safety is in point, there is no such thing.

The guy is off his rocker and that for sale thread is a danger to anyone who might consider buying his product and doing what he advises.

                          I agree.

The basic approach of unloading shot and replacing it with buck or a slug of the same weight (or less, usually you can't fit the same weight in the wad where that much bird shot fits) generally will result in lower pressures, right up to the time it doesn't.

If the seller of those slugs has nothing, then he has nothing to fear from the plaintiff's bar. On the other hand, if he has any assets at all, he is risking everything he owns selling that stuff in that manner.

Sounds like you have done everything you could.
