    DoubleTap Ammo

Am i the only one that heard of doubletap ammo?, the most famous 10mm manufacturer. I have been talking to so many people and it seems not to many know about them. Now they make over 100 different ones in all calibers.

Personally, I think Underwood is a better choice, at least for 10mm. But then, I think my own loads are even better, for certain less expensive.

I have heard of them and I have tested a few of there loads.

Most all of there loads are loaded hot, this sounds great but I have found that the extra velocity sends the projectile in to the target to fast for what the bullet was designed for. This causes the expansion to happen to fast and thereby under penetrate.

Of course I am talking about there JHP loads, specifically there gold dot and XTP offerings
I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.

          Double Tap's box Advertisement:
          DT 10mm 200Gr WFNGC - 1300fps/4.6" Barrel

          My Chrono Results (Multiple Occasions):
          DT 10mm 200gr WFNGC - 1215fps/6" Barrel

I had an extra 1.4" of barrel length, and their ammo still didn't even come close to their velocity claim. Stay away from DT for anything other than the 200gr WFNGC load. That is the best woods carry/hunting bullet/ammo out there or 10mm, even if it will only get about 1150fps from a 4.6"-5" barrel.

Stick to Underwood Ammo for fun, they're inexpensive (compared to DT's $1+ per round & BB's $2+ per round) and loaded HOT. Undewood & Buffalo Bore are really the only 10mm ammo makers that hold up to their velocity claims. Stick to Winchster 175gr Silver Tips for SD/Carry. Those Silver Tips run at about 1150-1175fps (G20), and that's more than enough power for SD.

On a side note, here's a link to the most extensive, although not really scientific, testing of different 10mm JHP's @ varying velocities. It a long, but very interesting read with TONS of pictures.

Underwood FTW. Double Tap was good, but now they have become overrated. If not Underwood, I would go Buffalo Bore for 10mm.

Depends on the bullet. My favorite powders for 10mm are: Blue Dot, AA #9, Longshot and VV-N105. Many also like 800X, but it meters so poorly I avoid it.

A terrific place to go to get loading information is the Glock Talk forums, 10mm reloading subsection.

I load 180gr (HAP's and XTPs'). You can go to 11grs of BD under a 180gr bullet and stay within Alliants max.

For the 165's and lighter, Power Pistol and 800x will likely give you better results than say BD or #9, in fact, you likely won't be able to get enough #9 in the case to make it worth while for the lighter bullets. Look also at WAC and even WSF will hold its own. Also AA #7.

If you want to try and get into nuclear territory, it is a good idea to read up on how to know when you have gone too far, read the pressure signs and measure head expansion, weigh each charge, ladder increments of .1gr, good chrony, kevlar shooting gloves, etc. etc.
