    Mystery loading press

    Hello,

I recently got a hold of a reloading press and i want to start loading. I am having a couple problems that I was hoping you all could help with. I wanted to get some more information on the press I have but there is no marking on it at all. It is a turret style press but I do not know who made it. I have searched through hundreds of pictures online but I can't find anything that looks similar. Does anyone recognize it (pictures below)?
The other problem I am having is I cannot get the dies down low enough to touch the shell holder. I was thinking about putting the dies in from the bottom, any thoughts on that? The dies I was testing with were RCBS 30 Carbine.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Here are some pictures, click to enlarge

Looks like a Lyman Tru-Line Junior Press. At least it looks to be very similar.

It isdefinitely NOT a lyman tru-line -- truline used nominal 5/8" diameter dies.
Has some features of the Hollywood and ponses warren --
There was a lyman EZ-loader press that the Full length die was installed from the bottom, but it used 5/8 dies for the other operations.

I suggest going to castboolits site - there are several guys there that are sure to know -

              Hi All,

Thank you for the replies! I appreciate it! I have added another picture of the press with a sizer die in it and the case carrier (?) all the way up. As the picture shows, there is a large gap. I tried threading the die in from the bottom but there is not enough clearance for the lock nut.

gunboat - you mention the size of the dies, are there longer ones than what I have? I believe the ones I have were used for an RCBS rock chucker. I dont know if that matters or not.

              Thanks again everyone!

LoL. It looks like an EARLY Lyman T-mag press or whatever they call them, 7 stations? Prolly been updated a few times.

Send your photos to Lyman and ask them, Better yet, Paint it orange and then send them photos and tell them you want an update kit...

Common reloading die sets are 7/8-14 thread and all are about the same length.
There are ecceptions for threaded file trimmers, etc --
Many presses are threaded 1 1/4-18 and have an insert for 7/8-14
In the past a lot of shotshell dies were 1 1/4 -- I believe 50 cal dies today also use that size -
Today Lyman is the only manf that has a different diameter and thread and that is only on their 310 dies -

Saw your post at castboolits, Be patient - one of the guys will identify it.

Thank you for all of the great info. It looks like one of the guys at castboolits nailed it - it seems to be a texan brand from the 60's. I still cannot figure out what I am doing wrong to make it not quite meet the shell holder. Maybe I can raise the shell holder.

Thanks again for all your help!

It may just be the photo/my monitor, but the lower links look different than the rest of the press -- Could they be shorter replacements -
I also do not recognize the aluminum affair at the front --

That looks like a C&H "Texan" press. If so, C&H is still in business I believe. Parts are available.

That is a very good point. The lower links are aluminum. I am trying to find a picture of another one with the shell holder up to compare.

That is for seating the primer. there is a seat that mounts to the front of it (screws into the hole you see), you pull the black knob towards you and a primer is placed on that tube, push it back and it is lined up to be put on the case. kind of neat and silly at the same time

After further investigation, it looks like this is not the case. I tried to take a picture of it but if the lower links are any longer, they will not clear the base when the lever is raised back up (putting the shell holder down).

I did notice that it will not accept all shell holders. There were some no name black ones that fit but the RCBS ones will not fit (too big). I measured them with a caliber and there is .002" difference. Small but apparently big enough. I am going to see if the local reloading place has a different shell holder carrier (i am making up my own names for parts).

I have one of those. My primer feeder is missing parts, so I cant use it to prime. But it's a bad *** piece. Works really nice for BIG stuff like .308 and 45-70. I can't remember if I used it to reload 30 carbine or not, I must have cause I didn't have another press at the time.

My lower links are steel. I would go out an measure them for you but the press is buried under a mountain of crap - I am having drywall installed in my shop and it is a HUGE mess.
