    Reloading 45 acp

    I've been looking at reloading 45 acp pretty soon but I really don't see much savings. Am I looking in wrong places for brass, bullets, and powder? I have just been looking at the prices on Midwayusa. Any tips for me, I live in Moreno Valley so there is not much variety where I can buy reloading supplies. I reload my .308 win, but the savings there are more evident. Any advice?

    Thanks

    Powder -> Powder Valley Inc

    Brass -> your local range

    Bullet -> I can't help, I dun do .45. I think lead bullets will give you a lot of savings, if you want FMJ, maybe you should check powder valley's or ghost-holster's Zero Bullets

    Primer -> PV, i guess, while you are getting everything else

      I've had good luck with these:

      200 gr LRN over 4 gr. of Bullseye is a nice plinking load. Just wear gloves when handling cause they're like, you know... lead.
      Leave the cannoli, take the gun.

        You pretty much have to purchase online. Get your C&R FFL to obtain a dealer discount with Midway and Grafs and it will help you save a little money on reloading equipment and components.

        As far as powder, I order all of my powder from Powder Valley on huge 48+ lb orders to max out the hazmat fee. I usually get an order together with a few other people.

        You don't want to by locally from stores if your goal is to save money. Paying $25 per lb of powder or per 1K of primers isn't the way to go.

            loading .45 ACP

            Wish I had an easy answer but all supplies are going UP. I just ordered 8 lbs. of Bullseye from Midway at $132 includes ship and HazMart = $16.50/lb.not bad when most shops charge $19-22 + sales tax. I usually buy primers in bulk at MiWall at the OC gun show last price was approx $100 for 5000. I expect it will increase by next time I need it. Bullets are a real varible I shoot mainly lead however lead is in such short supply (think China) I can't seem to locate any quanity.

                I cast my bullets and buy powder and in bulk, either at gun shows or Sportsman's Warehouse type places. My .45s cost me about $2.50 a box of fifty right now. I don't "save" much but, I do SHOOT more!

                  So how true is all the hype? Do they lead up your barrel? Those are cheap, and they definitely would save me money.

                    wow i would totally love to see your price breakdown

                    i cant find primers less than 2.5 cents each

                    bullseye runs me about 1.5 cents a charge

                    the lead bullet costs me about 6 cents

                    i use the bear creek for about $30 a box of 500

                    when was the last time you resupplied because that is like 2 years ago prices

                    any secrets to how you get your lead (i dont understand mettalurgy so i dont risk melting down wheelweights and scrap to get the right alloy mix)

                    but heating a pot of that goo isn't free either

                    anybody try these guys

                      Those laser cast lead bullets are quite hard, but they do seem to lead up my 44 and 45 caliber pistols more than they do in the 9mm/ 38. Or maybe it is just that the lead wipes right out of the smaller guns, but you do get leading when you use lead.

                      Invest in the various lead cleaning accessories and maybe try to limit yourself to one box of 50 lead loads and things will be manageable.

                        It may seem cheap to you but they are almost double the price of what they cost a few months ago, wish I had bought more.

                              thats great you get lead for free

                              how do you mix it do you just cast straight lead or do any mixing?

                              any secrets on how to get free lead (other than searching intersections for loose wheelweights)

                              can you melt down car batteries and skim off the acid?
