    My .223 reloading process ?

I'm planning on reloading 223. Does my plan look OK?

    Tumble 223 brass and inspect

    In my Hornady press:
    Lube/depriming die
    Dillon trimmer
    Sizing die

    Back into the tumbler.

    Dillon swage (if needed)

    Back to the press:
    Priming
    Powder through die (non expanding)
Seating die (and crimping, if needed)

Is this all? Am I missing anything? Thanks

priming pocket uniforming if you want, and taper crimp die if using in semi auto is nice.

The dillon trimmer is a sizing die at the same time right? If not i'd say resize first as that process stretches the brass and will require trimming after.

        Yes, trim after FL sizing.

OK, so the sizing die will be before the Dillon trimmer.

Add a decapping die to station 1 of your second setup to remove any tumbling media from the flash hole.

The dillon trimmer sizes the OUTSIDE of the case body and neck, but it does not expand the neck.
In your list in the first post, if you swapped the full length sizer for just a neck expander, your setup would be good.

You can also just use a full length die and set it 1/4" above the shellplate.
Then all it will do is expand the neck for you.

However, for more consistent sizing, you want to run an RCBS lube die in station 1 and a Lyman m die in station 5.
Both of these dies should be set so that the die bodies are snug against the shellplate BEFORE you install the dillon trimmer into station 3 and adjust it for proper headspace.
On a progressive press, the shellplate platform twists on top of the ram during sizing.
By using dies in stations 1&5 to offset the sizing operations in station 3, you minimize the twisting and you get more consistent sizing as a result.

You will probably need a tall Lyman m die body and then swap the 22 cal expander into it as the short m die bodies might not be long enough to reach the shellplate and allow you to adjust the expander depth properly.

Great info, thanks. So, a sizing die isn't really needed because the Dillon trimmer does that, right? (I just need the neck expanding die).

                Correct.

All you need to do is to expand the neck for a bullet to fit.
Standard sizing dies (and the dillon trimmer) squeeze the outside of the neck down smaller than needed as they have to be able to size the thinnest brass enough to hold a bullet.
Most brass is pretty thick though so when you use a "one size fits all" approach, you end up squeezing most bass down too much.
The expander button in a sizing die corrects the neck diameter by stretching the neck back out to the correct size to hold a bullet.

In more precision dies, where we know the thickness of the brass, you can get a sizing die with replaceable neck bushings.
Then you choose the appropriate sized bushing for the batch of brass.
The bushing will size the necks "just enough" to hold the bullets.
This reduces the over-working that occurs with standard dies, but for it to work, your brass has to be all from the same batch.

Primer pocket uniforming isnt really needed for just plinking stuff. But for precision stuff I would.

Stuck steel media and having to dry them is why I stick to dry tumbling.
