    Which Would You DO? Why?

Ok so I want to add another caliber to my press. Im choosing between 45acp and 223. I did some calculations. Now keep this in mind. If I choose one over the other I will still be able to get the other for very cheap. (Not naming source).

    Total Cost for 223-
550 Deluxe Quick Change Kit- 103.95
    223 Caliber Conversion - 45.95
Extra Toolhead for Sizing - 22.95
    Total - 172.85
(For 223 I already have the brass, bullets, powder, dies)

    I calculated the cost-
    Per 1000- 206.68
    Per 500- 103.30
    Per 20- 4.13
    Per Round- .21

It would take me about 1500 rounds to break even with all the stuff purchased. The cost savings would be anything after that.

    45 ACP
    Cases/1000- $60
    Primers/1000- $30
    Bullets/500- $60
    Caliber Conversion $44
    Deluxe Quick Change Kit $104
    Dies- 60
    Total $393

    Per 1000- 184.85
    Per Round- .19

It would take me about 3300 rounds to just break even. Anything after that would be strictly cost saving.

Which one would you chose to reload based on those stats?

Well I would base it off of which one you shoot more so you save more money..... So I would imagine that would be the 223?
It's ok to be jealous. We understand your animosity. We live the life you wish you had. And of over 4000 universities and over 1700 division 1 schools, only one is simply known as "The U"

I only read the first sentence, but I'd choose to load the 45. I have all the stuff to load for both but I don't load for 223 any more. Loading rifle sucks. It's too much trouble IMO for plinking rounds. For precision that's one thing, but for plinking rounds, it's easier just to buy them IMO. I was loading 223 for like 20 cents a round. I could buy it for 25 cents a round. No brainer for me.

Have you loaded rifle yet? It ain't fun. Not like pistol.

From now on I'm ony loading rifle for precision. Never for plinking.

Yeah I've reloaded rifle before which brings me to a new question, do I have to trim the brass each time

Most people would say yes. That being said, I've loaded many 223 rounds without ever trimming. My gun didn't blow up.

The smartest thing to do is jus get an RCBS X die. Trim once and never again.

Which do you shoot more? Choose that one...

I can't attest personally just yet, but I would definitely agree with everyone above^^^^^ go with what you shoot/foresee yourself shooting more of

                  Here is what will happen.

You will justify to yourself that you need to get one or the other.

                  You will get one.

Then soon, you will get the other.

                  Don't fight it. Embrace it.

I've never needed to trim after each firing. Usually go 3 or 4 before I need to trim. Only exception would be if I was making match ammo.

                        +2

I'm in the same boat, thought I'd be fine with just "x"... but now am deciding I want "y" too. Costs a lot more when you do it this way. Just give in and get it all now.

Whichever caliber you shoot more of make more sense.

Just buy both. The caliber you shoot most, buy first. Your new 550 will make your single stage seem so slow. Did Brian give you the conversion info?
