    Defective Powder?

Anyone else seen anything like this? I put a large pistol primer in for reference.
These are most of the big pieces that I picked out. Would you use this powder?
Edit - Oh yea, they are hard, not brittle...

woah.. do not use that powder. Those long grains are failed slices for the flake type powder. Their burn rate would be.. undetermined.. this goes for the smaller failed slices that likely run throughout the powder.

My plan was to pick out the biggest bits and use it anyway.

Fire off a fax w/photo to mfg. Bet you'll hear back real quick about the shipment of your replacement powder and how to return the defective batch.

I agree ^^^^^ quick email with pics will take care of it. They might even appreciate the fact you reached out to them about it.. wishful thinking

I thought about that, but most powder including this one is manufactured in some odd foreign country, leading me to think they might care, but can't control it, and won't want to pay the hazmat to send a replacement.

They will likely pay all of that.

Look, powder burns based on it's shape and surface area and any coatings. What you have is outright dangerous. Even the smaller pieces are still NOT FLAKES.

Contact the manufacturer, do not use.

$27 dollar hazmat or blowing up your gun and possibly hurting someone, is it worth it? I'm sure your magazine is worth more then $27

The cost to you of using it is high (damage to gun, self, others). The cost to the manufacturer of you using is even higher (lawsuit, liability). 10 to 1 they take very good care of you and we'll probably be reading about a recall in the future.

Western powder has great customer service.... I have emailed them with several reloading questions and have always got a promt friendly response. Last time scott@ramshot answered and even gave me alternate powders that have worked well for him. I'm sure they want to know about any defective products and will hook you up.

Rule #1 of possible concerns with a product:

Always contact the manufacture FIRST before the peanut gallery.

I would rather seem like an idiot to the manufacture than believe an idiot on a forum and hurt myself or others!
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.

Who's rule book does that come from? Can you direct me to a copy?

Only an idiot or an as$ would assume that just because a question is posted, that the poster is some brainless fool that will blindly follow the replies.
