    Glock barrel and plated bullets?

Well another post concerning my incoming Glock 20c...

I will be loading for it...so are plated bullets ok to run through the factory barrel? I understand lead bullets + polygonal rifling is not good, correct? I just want to make sure I get the right components ordered. I'd consider a new barrel at some point anyways but would like to reload as safely and cheaply as I can for the factory barrel.

    Thanks for reading....Steve

Yes plated bullets are fine to shoot in factory Glock barrels. So is lead if you know what you're doing. But plated require no special concerns. Most plated bullets shouldn't be shot over 1200fps though, the plating could separate. With 10mm, that may be an issue. It's easy to load over 1200fps. So you'll want to find out from the manufacturer if they're safe to shoot that fast. The problem is that most of the plated bullets you'll find will be specified for 40 caliber in which they probably expect you not to break 1200fps.

Just to play it safe I'd buy jacketed. I'd really want to push a 10mm hard and see what kind of power you could get out of it.

In regards to your other post, most guys like longshot.

Most plated bullets that I have found are able to go to 1250 fps. X-treme Bullets are able to withstand 1500 FPS per talking to them over the phone. They have not put those numbers on the website yet but they told me over the phone...

Berry's bullets were making a 240gr that MIGHT be able to be pushed to 2000 FPS but that was for a 44 mag and that was after I found that they had a 50 AE bullet that can withstand 2000 FPS. They told me that it MIGHT be available later this year. I did not ask about 40cal/10mm bullets.

OF course Jacketed is always the best way to go if you have the money but cheap bastids like me LOVE the plated stuff. Shoot away but check your barrel for skid marks. If you se ea LOT of it then you know you are shooting a tad too hot.

Post some picz of that sexy beast when you get it. Is that a COMPED model? I did not bother to look it up.

+1 on the X-treme bullets. They claim they can go up to 1500 fps, and the reason why is they have a thicker plating.

However, the line is blurring between the prices of jacketed and plated. Right now, they are not the deal they once were.

It has been a while since I loaded plated, but when I did they ran fine in my Glocks. I also shoot lead out of my stock Glock barrels and have never seen anything more than what I get out of my standard rifling barrels lead wise.

The only difference I have seen with the Glock style rifling is they seem to not do as well stabilizing heavier bullets loaded hot. This seems to be worst with lead and my theory is the Glock rifling doesn't bite into the bullet quite as well as standard lands and grooves and hence doen't dizzy up the bullet quite as well. Being an anecdotal observation and completely unscientific in every respect, YMMV.

Both plated and cast bullets shoot great out of stock barrels. Just keep your velocity in check.

I have a lot of x-perience with X-Treme plated in 9/40/45/223, I am very satisfied with their performance. I now exclusively shoot them.

I have over 17,000 plated bullets thru my G17 and G22. No worries. As mentioned above, watch your velocities.

Lots of answers but for non-compensated guns.
Keep to mid-level loads and you should be ok. Load only jacketed to full level loads.
