Titegroup and 45 auto?

Anyone else find it dirty? It would leave 2" of carbon near the muzzle of my USP after only 1-200 rounds.

It does tend to be dirty when using lower power loads. But when using near max loads I find it is rather clean.

Clean when max, dirty when min. Seems too complicated. I will stick with 700x.

The carbon at the end of the muzzle, wipes right off...no biggie. Also, if you look down the barrel, I find no unburnt powder residue...kinda nice. I jumped on the Titegroup bandwagon about 4 years ago and have never looked back.

Yes, with lead and moly's...if you load hot...it can get a little smokey.
I agree that with TG, if you're not paying attention it's easy to double charge and not realize it...so PAY Attention.

From my limited Titegroup experience it is a wonderful 45acp powder. Just yesterday I was shooting at the local range and a friend of mine handed me 10 home-brew bullets. They were 200gr SWC (Home cast) over 4.6gr of Titegroup. At 10 yards I put all ten in a 1.5 group while standing. Nice modest recoil, some smoke, and seemed very accurate. If I didn't like to use one powder for all my handguns (9, 38, 40, & 45) I might give Titegroup a try, but I use Power Pistol.

I use W231 in my Semi's but it is dirty in my 625 5" revolver. I have 1 lb of TG to try in my Revolver over a 200 or 230 grain plated lead bullet.

So how hot, (FPS) does the TG load need to be so it is clean and not dirty?

I usually use Bullseye for handguns and Titegroup for rifles

Been using titegroup for years for loading .45ACP. My load is a 200 gr SWC over 4.5 gr charge of TG.

from hodgdon, the tightgroup load for 230 LRN is between 4 and 4.8 gn

I use 4.5gn with moly 230gn projectile and there is no unburned powder in the barrel with minimal carbon build up after 250 rounds. Any thing that left behind by the powder easy comes off with hopppes no.9

I don't think FPS is going to be the determining factor I think it has to do with CUP pressure.

I would guess that any load with a cup pressure of at least 15,000 is going to burn clean.

that in a 230gn plated bullet (guessing) that might translate to 800 FPS

Published Max is 4.8gr.

This was mainly for my 1911, but have since used the same loads for my XD Tactical and my G21SF
