Recipie request. looking for Desert Eagle .44mag pet load

I have a newer employee who inherited a Deagle in .44 mag and a bunch of gunshow reloads. the gun doesn't run for piss. I bough him an authentic spring kit from Khar arms through Midway. had some trouble installing it but after an extended conversation with Magnum research we got the Israeli recoil springs, ran the gun in the ultrasonic and did a head to toe clean and lube (it had been sitting for over 15 years) this improved performance but we still can't get a full mag through it without a FTF (feed) the best I've strung together is 6 rounds and that's with straight arming it and a death grip. So, I'm thinking it's probably under-powered.

I have a fist full of brass and my Elmer Keith loads jotted down, components and dies. Not sure if I want to put Elmer Keith's in the Deagle. they messed up the timing on my anaconda.

I have AA#9, blue dot and some other powders. I have Sierra 220 grain jacked soft point (flat point) I also have 240 grain hard cast flat point.

    any help would be appreciated

I have several molds for the .44 mag bullets and have tried a few factory rounds, but the absolute best I have experienced is the Hornady 240 grain XTP JHP. It has functioned flawlessly and reliably with good performance. If you already have the tools and other components, these bullets are worth trying.

      these ones?

which of the powders have you had luck with? I have AA #9, blue dot and it looks like I'm getting H110 and IMR 4227 later today

Bruh... You are doing it wrong. I have a DE in .44 and now a .50AE barrel. My .44 mag runs FLAWLESS it is also a MK-VII variant made in 2008 and picked up in 2010. I started reloading for it with plated rounds and then later on with PC pills because they said it could not be done... EVERYONE is afraid of the GAS tube inside getting mucked up with lead. According to Mag Research they told me that if you fire a full mag of lead bullets through it, it will most likely sieze up the gun and make it a single shot pistol by the end of the mag. I never cared to test that, but I can tell you that running plated through it WILL give you the kiss if you run with it comped. Also, for 99% of the rounds through the gun when it jams on folks, the reason is USUALLY one of two things. #1 is the person shooting it is LIMP WRISTING it. Keep your wrist locked and do NOT flinch. You gotta keep it stiff. Number 2. Keep it clean for a bit. After about 15-25 rounds my Deagle was failing to go into battery. It was due to excessive powder that was not burned off and was getting stuck between the chamber and the brass case on the way in (maybe cause I run with LPP instead of LPM?) ... Cleaning it out with a bore snake fixed it 100% of the time so far. Now though it does not seem to care very much. Also, it WILL help to get THE HOGUE rubber grip set. THAT will give you night and day performance. It is so soft and easy to shoot in .44 mag you should not worry too much about recoil or LIMP WRISTING it then. Finally, number 3, but your issue does not really make this an issue, but, some folks because the way they ride the bottom of the safety or slide stops, that WILL lock the gun open after some rounds. So proper hand positioning is key. Don't ride her too high up under the slide...

You came here for a load, I got tons, but this is the crowd pleaser:
23-25gr of H-110 with a 200gr PC RN or plated and COAL is standard, what? 1.16 inches or something? I forgot the length but it was pretty standard. the 200GR bullets can be pushed to around 25gr of H-110 but I never really went above 23.8 IIRC. Also, Do not drop the slide stop to close the slide, you WILL break your gun and have to send it in for repair. Pull back the slide and let it go forward on its own power.

As for other powders, CFE Pistol or Longshot or LiLgun or something (I forgot without checking my notes) and ENFORCER are also nice, AA #9 is softer, BLUE DOT is also nice, Weird though, Blue dot will eject to your rear and diagonal right where H-110 goes almost straight up and slightly forward. I never used LPM in my later rounds because I only had LP primers only. They worked and I never had any secondary det.

        Good luck and have fun.

Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

IDK, the gun is pretty clean. Had just that morning stripped it down and ran it 10 min in the ultrasonic. Lucas CLP for protection and shooter's choice on all the mating surfaces. Then installed brand new Magnum Research spring kit with the exception of the outer main recoil springs. After a 20 minute discussion with the gun smith over at Kahr/Magnum I was convinced to buy the Israeli recoil springs, which I bought directly from them. It's either limp wrist or the ammo or he's sending it back to Kahr/magnum

          this is what it's doing:

EDIT: funny, I don't have large pistol magnum primers. I have everything but LP in magnum. I did find 90 of the old Winchester LP marked for both standard/magnum. I think after that I might use LRM. I doubt that gun will have any trouble setting rifle primers off.

It is hard for me to see. This looks like a NEWER model? What is that? A MK-X or something? The newer ones have the comp built into the barrel. Makes them shorter. Mine is two toned OD/black so it looks like it has a goatee in the front... This COULD be from form in shooting, but how many rounds are through that thing? Is it new? You might need some full power magnum loads to break in that recoil spring set. Was it ever shot much? Would be nice to meetup at a range and have a closer look at it. I can bring some of my H-110s and Blue Dots and see how it handles those compared to mine. I THINK if it is too new and not enough power, then you would not clear the shell, but you are clearing the shell, so is the slide sticking open because of his hand bumping up the slide stop? Get a closer movie of it to maybe tell. I would shoot from the left side to see if he is hitting that slide stop. Also, I never knew the Deagle to run dripping wet, but certainly don't run it dry. I aint gonna say khah folks do not know what they are talking about, but they ARE conservative in what they will tell you. Prolly for lawyers and stuff. Also, what kind of loads is he shooting? Reloads from the gun show? -yikes. Are those MEANT for the deagle or are they meant for lever guns? Remember, the Deagle is a GAS HOG. NO MINIMUM LOADS EVER. It needs the gas to actuate the piston in the front and cycle properly. I should not be giving advice since mine is still kinda dirty, (okay it is always dirty) but check that gas port if you can and see that there is no crap stuck inside it. If they jammed up the barrel with lead rounds, then the gun came with a paperweight for a barrel. I would say you can prolly heat the barrel till it is red hot and watch the lead pour out, but then you gotta toss the barrel cause that is prolly bad. Worst case, another barrel might fix this issue if those are magnum loads. Yes, I know that is a $600 ix, but it is a $1700 gun at this point so it is worth it, but let's try other things first. These are my observations with Deagles: when I left others shoot mine, they ALWAYS jam it up. at least once, it takes me getting on them about limp wristing a few times before they correct the action. They are also shooting Blue Dot or Enforcer or H-110 loads that I made. As for cleaning it, keep the chamber clean and the piston area clean. Everything else is meh. If you can, get some photos of the gas port. You can see the gas port on the bottom of the chamber right before the mouth of the case would end. If you can see into the holes (either 1 or 3 of them, I forgot) then it might not be too bad.

I do not know, it's not my gun. A young man who works for me had inherited it when his father passed about 16 years ago. It's been sitting in the safe the entire time. From talking with magnum research, from the serial number, it was an Israeli built gun IMI, which is why they sold me the Israeli springs. I think it's going back far enough to clear the spent shell but perhaps not all the way to the stop, aka short stroking. I do not know much about these gun abut I'm getting an education and I'm asking for pet loads for the DE I'd like to rule out under powered guns how reloads before I ship the gun back to Khar. I've been picking up the tab for all of this so far. range fees, parts, everything. I don't pay all that well but I do try to take care of my employees. most employees get a M18 fuel set for their first Christmas for me, with this young man I'd like to get his DE running for him. He'll get the M18 next year.

as for round count, those things run filthy AF. hard to tell from carbon buildup but nothing was caked on. as for the slide wear, there's not much. if I had to guess I'd say more than 150 and fewer than 500 rounds. but like I said, I know nothing about these guns.

22.5 grains of Win 296 or H110 (they're the same powder) with a 240 grain plated flat point bullet. The Deagles like heavy bullets and being loaded hot. Light bullets, weak loads, or a combination of both will give you issues! As for cleaning, the biggest issue is the port where the gas pushes the slide back. The Deagle should've had a tool with a right angle on it that's splined. This is a carbon scraper to clean out the port and keep it running right. If you've got new springs and the gun's clean, it's definitely the loads. Use them in a revolver or lever gun and don't look back.

Well poop. I went and got 2 pounds of H110 because it seems to be one of the preferred .44 mag powders in both my Lyman’s and Lee manuals. I have to say, Lee is a dang good manual. But I have at least 4 pounds of 296… oh well.

I see loads up to 300 grains and even bigger…. 240 is plenty though?

Yeah, H110 and 296 are identical. Probably made in the same factory and just a different label.

240 is more than enough unless you're going handgun hunting for grizzly bears! I had issues with both 185 & 200. No problems with 240.

Yeah I got about a lb of W296 and about 8lbs of H110. They ARE the same thing, just different labels, but you know the reloading community. There was also another one or two like that. I thought it was the WST or WSF and something else from Hogdon... Mostly for 9mm/.45 but I would have to see my bottles to know. It has been a while since I touched that stuff. When it comes to REAL .44 mag powders, There are only two powders to get, H110/ W296 (because they are the same, but I always say H110) and AA#9 . AA#9 is the more gentlemanly powder because it is softer, but H110/ W296 is more in your face BOOM with a SWEET shockwave. All the other powders ARE nice, but they are still one step below, Blue Dot, Red Dot, Enforcer, Lil Gun, there was another one or two also, but they were not as popular.

You are a very nice employer to do that for your employees. (Or are you an evil employer for doing it with the M18?- Cause you know, the P320 shoots on its own...) We should all be so lucky to have an employer like yourself. I hope this gets resolved to be just the gunshow rounds that were bought. Yeah make about 16 of those 240gr with 22.5gr w296/H110 loads and see if the gun gets happy and empties the mags with no issues. Do not go larger than 240GR pills though because you are running a MAG and IIRC, the longer bullets might not fit in your mags and feed reliably. Those are meant more for revolvers and lever guns. To conserve lead I always fired 180-200grn pills. I can send you some if you want. I think I have a few leftover PC Pills.

Oh yeah, and I always favored BALLISTOL when you can get it for cleaning the Deagle but later I moved to Eds Red. I just make up about a gallon of it and it lasts forever...

I am a fan of Balastol, especially on my C&R but I have to say the Lucas CLP (like all Lucas products) is a real step up from breakfree etc. It really stays put.

I I’m thinking I may just break down those gun-show loads and build them again. They have 220 grain JHP’s and 18 grains of god knows what. If you could send me a dozen or so pills known to work in the DE, that would be a great help.

One other thing, I want to polish the feed ramp. It’s rather porous. Like it had been cast and never touched after that. I read that I need to pay attention to keeping the transition angles when polishing though.

Do you PC your own pills or do you need them coated? I have some plated 240gr I can send but I MIGHT have to PC some 200 gr. I gotta double check. Otherwise I can send you some 200gr RNFP lead pills for the .429/.430 size. Let me know and I will get them out to you.

The only thing I do with bullets is sort them by weight. I do think I may start swaggering to get to .311 for 303 Brit but I don’t even know how to do that
