Pretty hard to stick a straight wall case in a carbide die. Are you using the right shell holder?

Glad to see you got it out. I had this happen this morning with a .223 case in a RCBS FL sizing die. Destroyed the decapper/expander getting it apart to drive the case out. Of course the local reloading shop didn't have decappers/expanders in stock.

I've also got a Lee .223 sizing die with a case stuck in it, too. Waiting on the RCBS stuck case removal kit to address that one.

I wish I had pictures for you, but last time I had a stuck case, I trapped and drilled the end of the case and used a bolt along with a socket and stack of washers for a spacer. Came right out and cost me nothing! Oh yeah, be sure to remove the decapping rod or at least move it out of the way first.

No need for that, just buy a Stuck case remover and keep a couple of spare decapper pin handy.

Every reloader should have a stuck case remover handy.

For straight walled pistol I use Hornaday One Shot lube (mainly makes the sizing easier, never stuck a handgun case), for rifle I use Dillon case lube (basically Lanolin and 99% Iso Alcohol mix).

Ditto on the stuck case removal kit, there are two type of rifle reloaders, ones that have stuck one and ones that will.

                      Reset your deprimer pin

It looks to me like your deprimer pin is set too deep, pull it up until it does not penetrate past the end of the case, the pin should only penetrate as much as it takes to knock the primer out consistantly.

I've been reloading since 1987 and never had a pistol case get jambed.

I would fall into the never had one category.

Single ring carbide dies aren't the cure all for sizing without lubrication we think they are. The ring of carbide that does the sizing is designed to reduce the diameter of the case to hold the bullet, however if set to touch the shell holder, it sizes tapered cases too small at the base. If it sizes into the solid head or web area it can stick, as this isn't what it was designed to do. The carbide ring is designed to draw down the diameter of what is essentially a thin walled tube, which allows it to reverse direction and extract the sized case. When it sizes into the thicker case head or web area it becomes a bar stock draw die where the direction can not be reversed, but the brass must be pushed all the way through the die. Redding makes a push through .40 S&W base die just for this reason. https://www.redding-reloading.com/ne...ase-sizing-die

Properly adjusted carbide ring dies should be adjusted to size only far enough down the case to resize the area contacting the bullet.

If this doesn't size the bottom portion of the case enough to allow chambering of tapered pistol cases (even straight wall cases have some taper), then a dual ring carbide die is recommended. Redding makes a dual ring carbide die: http://redding-reloading.com/online-...g-carbide-dies

Adjusting a carbide die to jam against the shell holder can also stress the ring, causing it to crack and ruin the die.

Cases sized in a carbide die should also be clean and free of grit or dirt. Fired cases, and in some instances new cases, need to be tumble cleaned before reloading. If a case is dirty or gritty, it can stick in a carbide die. Sand is blown between the rails and locomotive wheels to provide traction, and grit will do the same for a case inserted in a carbide die. In the OP's photograph of the case, it appears from some light streaking that grit was the problem. Keep both the die and brass clean is the key.

Hope this helps. I have been loading since 1960, been there done that.

I just use a self tapping screw to get stuck cases out along with a washer and a small socket.

they chuck up a hex driver in a drill and run the screw into the primer pocket and it will remove the case

it also helps to freeze the entire thing as the different metals change sizes at different rates which also helps

just need to find the correct size of socket to fit your situation. the screws will eventually wear the tips out but readily available
