Did you anneal them? I'm wondering if I can justify buying one to prolong the brass life. It's about $450 for an automatic one

Nope.
But I'm not super concerned about getting a huge amount of reloads out of them. I keep acquiring so much .223/5.56 brass I'll have enough for a very VERY long time.

Range trips where i bring home up to 700 or more, plus all my friends that shoot and don't reload save me all their brass. Hell I just got 400 .308 from a friend of mine.
