Help: want to get started in reloading...

Hi all, I want to start reloading mainly .223 and .40 cal.
I'd appreciate someone to help me get started. IE; what reloader to get and everything else involved. Thanks!

Just about everything you need is in this kit. Also buy a tumbler for brass, a couple of reloading manuals and dies for the calibers you want to reload.

    Have fun

I'd recommend (2) Dillon Super 1050's. One for .223, the other for .40. Get yourself a couple KISS Bulletfeeder's and you should be set.

In all seriousness, check out this site for some great info. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?act=idx

If in the Bay Area PM me and we can work something out. I've got a 1050 setup at the shop. Get a copy of the ABCs of Reloading from one of the bookstores.

I'm in the same, well, similar boat.

I received a RCBS rock chucker kit for my birthday several years ago when I was still living with my folks (It may have been a subtle attempt by my father to tell me I was going through too much of his ammo)

I wasn't too interested at the time, but I set up the press and sized up some .223, but never got around to loading any of it. Now that I'm spending my own money on ammo, I've taken an renewed interest in reloading . After the past few years of bouncing around I'm not in a dorm or apartment and have space to set this up.

I'd like it if I could at least watch someone go through the motions before I start, and maybe get a look at how people set up and organize their rigs.

Let me know if anyone is in the Fresno-Tulare area that can help me out.

              Thanks

Would y'all be interested in a reloading "clinic"? We could meet at the shop and after picking a caliber beforehand, go through the process, setup, then load a few rounds first hand and a Q & A at the end? How many would be interested? PM me and if there's more than one or two, I'll post a thread to get 5 -10 people into a "class". It would have to be in the evening during the week or on a Monday.

                  Just like a pusher:

"Try it, it won't hurt you"

And pretty soon you're hooked and you'll do anything to get your reloading fix. Mark my words, one day you'll find yourself crawling around on your hands and knees in the dirt looking for that last empty cartridge case. Asking complete strangers at the range "Are you going to keep that brass?" Buying speciality dies and equipment. Locking yourself in your reloading room so no one bothers you.

It all starts with that "I'd like to start reloading"

I'd be in for a clinic. Because you're a little far it would depend on my work and school scheduels. But it would give me a chance to visit your shop.

I would be down too. I've been wanting to learn myself.

I just had my firts one-on-one Reloading crash course courtesy of JKASANDIEGO cal gun member and tell you what, reloading it is not as difficult as it sounds. Thank you JKASANDIEGO. I can't wait till tomorrow to go buy my gear so that I can start reloading. It did help a bunch going through the process with someone with experience and actually doing it before you go out there into the unknown.

BTW.....I've never tried- but do the local SD ranges allow you to pick up your brass?

A hint for anyone considering reloading...
                            Start saving your brass NOW.
                            Get some 5 gallon buckets.
Everytime you go shooting bring back all your brass and every other piece you can scrounge up from shooting neighbors too.
Fill one bucket with each cartridge case you intend to reload, 9mm, 223 etc...
Once you have a few buckets of what you need, it's time to buy the gear.
It will take a while to save up that much brass so start reading books and go find someone to introduce you to reloading.

Anyone in the LA area is welcome to come over to my place for a reloading intro.

I started saving brass about a year before I stated reloading. My last year's new years resolution was to get into it.

Did it, substantially invested into it..It's like the financial part of it never happened..I'm back to saving up for a nice SG or whatever or thinking about car payments etc.

A 90 yr old veteran at E.F.& G. told me that he hadn't bought commercial ammo since Custer's Last Stand. Now I understand why this isn't so much a joke more than it is a slight exaggeration.
