You can defeat the auto index on a 650 in about 20 seconds.
All you do is unscrew two screws and remove one part.
I'm with you on manual index for experimenting and development loads.
i have three 550's and a 450 for that.Leave a comment:

The reason that I like my 550b is because it doesn't auto index. So I can use it like a turret when I feel the need.+1 for Randall! he was nice enough to take time out of his busy schedule and show me how to reload FOR FREE!!!
Thanx to him, i now know the basics of reloading, and 3 days ago i purchased my first reloading press, (Redding T7 turret press) and im having a blast with it. It was easy to set up and get started, and a lot of fun. You guys were right, this thing is addictive!
The reason i didnt get a progressive press is because im new to reloading, plus i wanted to start loading up some accurate loads first, when the funds allow, ill pick up a progressive dillon for mass reloading for plinking.Leave a comment:

Hey Frank, Roland here. I was at IA talking to you today for ~20 minutes about a reloader set up. Thanks man, I learned a lot. Too bad I didn't catch you tutorial session in time. Well, maybe on the next one.Leave a comment:

PM'd you. I'd certainly be interested.Would y'all be interested in a reloading "clinic"? We could meet at the shop and after picking a caliber beforehand, go through the process, setup, then load a few rounds first hand and a Q & A at the end? How many would be interested? PM me and if there's more than one or two, I'll post a thread to get 5 -10 people into a "class". It would have to be in the evening during the week or on a Monday.Leave a comment:

It's true.. I still spend a couple hundred bucks a month shooting (roughly, I guess). Reloading has opened the possibility of shooting a lot more semi-costly calibers like 45 acp in greater number or, most recently, my new interest in 44 magnum and 44 spl. previously, these magnum revolver calibers were really just too expensive to shoot more than a box or two a year and I really had no interest in even buying a gun for them.
I went an got a 44 magnum and have my sights on a 500 s&w in the future as i know that I can control ammo costs. I wanted to do reloading when I was in my 20's, but didn't. Then I put the guns away for a decade. Don't waste 10 years like I did. buy now, because even if you lose interest..it will be back later on and you'll want to be fully equipped with all the right gear.Leave a comment:

I never thought to check.
The whole point was to bring up the fact that you don't actually save any money reloading.
You just shoot a whole lot more, which is a good thing.
You will spend a similar amount of money on the hobby no matter what ammo costs.
When ammo costs 1/3 as much, you typically just shoot 3 times as much.
