So last night I decided to work up my first batch of 9mm reloads. Im trying Power Pistol from Alliant. I first started at 5.9Grn and worked up to 6.5 2grns under the max. Is it normal for this powder to look like its filling the casing almost 75% full with this powder?

I'll have to try some PP in 9mm then. I started with Blue Dot, because in the Lymann manual, it was one of the only available powders that had data for the 3 different pistol calibers and bullet weights I'm working with. But, I'm hearing a lot of talk about BD burning too slow for good .45 loads. Looks like I'll be having different powders for each. Sounds like PP might be good in 9mm, and my .38 spl though! I'll have to look up some data! Thanks for posting the good findings!

I really like alliant pistol powder, and am in my 2nd pound since the first of the year
it does tend to fill cases more than other powders
from what I know, the fuller cases are desirable because it promotes a more complete and more consistant burnI will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.Comment

Given the increased volume of charge, how does the Power Pistol flow through the Lee Pro Powder Disk set? I am getting the 2-disk mod soon, so fine tuning the drop is no problem. I am really happy with how my BD meters through it. I am weighing every bullet right now, and am usually consistant, with almost all drops within 0.1 grains of each other. Maybe the extra 'fluffier' volume will be even more consistant!

No its more like a flake type powder. I use My Hornady Auto Powder loader takes forever for my pistol LOL . Thinking of getting a Manual powder dispenser for Pistol.Comment

I'm prety sure it's considered a flattened ball powder. It is like it was a ball powder that was visited by a rolling pin.
so it is flak shaped but way more consistant in size and shape than many of the flake powders I have used in shot shells.
In my 20 year old rcbs powder measure I can keep it at 6.4 grains with in a 1/10 of a grain with out ever going over. So 6.3 or 6.4.I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.Comment

I assume you are loading for a 115 FMJ? 6.5g of Power Pistol will fill the case nicely. Power Pistol is my favorite powder for 9mm. Lots of flash, bang and velocity. Power Pistol is my choice for both 9mm and 40 S&W, I tried it in my 45acp and didn't like it as well as Bullseye. For 9mm I use 6.0gr P/P with a 115gr Montana Gold HP COL 1.100 this load shoots very nicely. For 40S&W I like 6.6gr P/P with a 180gr Montana Gold HP COL 1.130. I know I can load hotter for both guns but I load for what shoots best, the hotter loads just didn't shoot well.If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.Comment
