anybody reloading any 300 blackout..I just bought a 300 blackout rifle and it seems that the ammo is just a bit expensive for just plain shooting out there..

I've been reloading 300 AAC Blackout and my favorite load has been 125gr Sierra SP with Hodgdon H110

My Cost for each round:

Brass is converted from 5.56 cases, so no monetary cost, just time to make.

Bullets (projectile) I got a bunch for 15 cents each.
Primers 2.5 cents
Powder 4.8 cents

So total for each round = 22.3 cents
or about $4.50 for a box of 20

UMC is supposed to be the cheapest, but still at $11 per 20 still a lot. Plus it hard to come by. I reload 110,125,147 gr. bullets. It's more fun to shoot when you know you don't have to wait. My reloading so far is dedicated to this round.

Hope this helps anyone looking to load a more cost effective round for plinking or hunting. I loaded some Sierra Pro Hunter 125 spitzer (Sierra # 2120) using Hodgdon data for the Nosler 125. The Sierras are $24 for 100, the Noslers are $18 for 50 and the V-Max are $27 for 100 (From Midway).

I loaded 10 rounds at 17 gr, 10 at 17.2 gr, 10 at 17.4 and 10 at 17.6 gr. Loaded at 2.060 COL with H110

Dies were Foster and a Lee FCD was used. Case was new Remington 300 brass.

Rifle was a LAR side charge with a Wilson 16 inch 1-8 recon barrel. Spikes ST-1 buffer with JP spring. And standard GI mag. I had 100% reliable cycle.

Optics was an EOtech EXPS2-0 with 3X magnifier. And a lead sled was used.

At 100 yards and a mild cross wind:

17 grain was ok groups. 17.6 was all over the place, not good at all. Both 17.2 and 17.4 had holes touching. I've decided to use 17.3 for my loads from now on. Sorry no targets posted, I was playing hooky from work today. I'm planning to load 100 rounds and go back out in a month. I will post the targets for sure and no lead sled next time.

Midway had brass available this morning. When I checked back in the afternoon, it was sold out. 300 blk seems to be very hot right now. All the forums are a-buzz.

I've got my first 300 BLK barrel inbound in the mail, as well as some Lee dies (I actually found a place that still had a few sets in stock), and some of the 125gr blems bullets from Midway. (I'll post some pictures as soon as they arrive so everyone can see how good/bad they are.)
I load huge amounts of .40 S&W, and a few K here an there in 5.56. Normally, I like Varget for 5.56... and I'm hoping it'll work for 300 BLK, but I'm not adverse to trying anything.

I'm not worried about brass... the plan is to use a fixture I've designed to trim large amounts of brass using the CNC mill at the shop. You'll probably see me selling some from time to time in the marketplace if time permits.

Since I haven't loaded or shot 300 BLK yet, I'm happy for any info I can get here!

I joined up over there a while ago, but mainly just lurk.
The only thing is that since that's not a local (Kalifornia) forum, everyone seems to be running 10 inch barrels with cans. Not the sort of load out I'm looking to build.

Probably one of the best things about a more local forum like CGN.

This weekend I'll be testing some rounds. Unfortunately, I do not yet have a chrono. I'm just gonna be starting low, looking for accuracy and any over pressure signs.

I'll be testing some plinking M80 (147gr .308) and some Hornandy 110 V-Max.

I am going to chrono my 125gr sierra loads this weekend as well and I may work up another load for my 147gr fmj's with A1680. My H110 load is dialed in.
