"cowboy" bullets?

I've taken the advice from the last thread I made re: loading .38/.357 rounds and am looking for .358 bullets. All of pd's are .357 lead, which I am told will cause problematic leading. So I went to look at xtreme's bullets and ts the same except for their "cowboy" bullets. What are these? Low velocity, softer bullets? Thinking about just going with 158gn swc plated .357 bullets. Thanks.

How about Oregon Trail?
Some guys I know at USI use them in 357 levers for cowboy silhouette and they like them a lot. Some pretty hot loads with H110 and no leading reported.
I bought a boat load that I'm mixing up with 2400. I'll let you know. -g

I think just calling X-treme (about what they mean by the term Cowboy) would be the fastest and most accurate way of getting at the truth.

I use SNS Casting for my lead bullets, a cut above quality wise and just as fast service with competitive prices. Also, Penn bullets offers many size options as a normal ordering option. Penn quality is excellent and their prices very competitive, just a little slow on the shipping front.

I consider cowboy velocities to be much slower than 1100fps. Personally I'd avoid them for what you want to do. I'd order form Missouri and wait it out.

Really just depends on the hardness. If they're 12 or over you're probably fine. Anything under 12 is really soft.

How bad do you need them? I probably have a couple hundred 158gr SWC's laying around (brinell 18) that I would be happy to sell you for whatever the going rate is. That is if you want to take a drive down south.

I've called them with q's and get conflicting answers regarding shipping, I'll try just asking them what the hardness rating is first, since it sounds like as long as they are bhn 12, they're g2g for what I want to do with them.

My flat black (tactical 357). Shots fired were 148gr WC from Missouri Bullet Company. 2.2gr of Trail Boss push these bullets just under 650fps. It feels like I'm shooting a 22.

I love smiths. I wanted a smith. But this ruger was just too good to pass up at $380 with the extra grips and a case, IMO. I had seen (after I bought this) a 4" 686 all black like yours for $600 on here. I was very tempted but ultimately decided To pass it up, for now. Maybe in a couple months I'll look again.

My next revolver will most likely be a Ruger. I hate the locks S&W puts on the newer revolvers.

Wise guy, eh? I agree they ain't winning any beauty contest, but they are very comfortable and provide an excellent grip. It's a sacrifice, for now. I'll definitely check out those links above.
