Yups! that had some play in my one powder idea a while back. Not having to mess with the powder meter between calibers is very nice.

I know this thread is old, but what OAL did you use for this load?

Not a bad powder but I prefer WST in 40, 45, and 9. Much cleaner when used with moly pistol bullets.

W231 is a good all around powder. Very soft in 9mm. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's very dirty with moly coated bullets.

Great powder for 9mm. 4.2 grains under a 124 grain bullet is a very smooth round.

Use this and Bullseye exclusively, love W231 though. Nice consistent powder throws.

I use 231 in 9mm. It's much cleaner than Bullseye or Unique. I used to shoot subgun a lot, and a smoky load becomes very obvious very quick. I'd like to know if anyone uses a less smoky load.

231 is low bulk, so it fits in a 9mm case. A lot of powders won't. Tried Power Pistol, but a max load still couldn't get any velocity out of it (~1050 fps).

I use it for my .40 S&W loads. 6.3 gr. in my 140 gr. lead and 155 gr. plated bullets.

My dad uses it for his .45 ACP and .41 Mag loads. We always go halves on powder and found that W231 was a good choice for both of us.

We load the .40's and .45's in a Dillon 550 with no issues and always get accurate throws.

I was using it exclusively for .40S&W. Switched to Bullseye for a while... now I'm back to 231. I still use the Bullseye in my .45ACP, but 231 works well in that as well.

I've been using Win 231/Hp-38 for 38/357, 9mm and 45 ACP. Good versatile powder. Note: Hodgdon HP-38 is the same powder as Win 231 and is normally priced cheaper by a couple of bucks a pound. At least in my area.

I've found it pretty clean when used with complete metal jacketed bullets or plated. But yeah, with lead bullets... Someone needs to call the fire department cuz' it smokes.

Used to be all I'd use. But got tired of the sootiness of it and it burns inefficiently. Lots of unburnt powder out the bore. Its the only powder I have that flashes out of my comps haaha. If you're running longer barrel then its better. It tends to like higher pressures but even then its still dirty.

And I know this has been argued before but I actually have an email from hodgdon to back up that hp38 is identical to 231. So buy hp38 and have a few bucks saved for bullets.
