    W231 Powder experiences

I picked up some Winchester 231 a while back and tried it out on some 38 spl. Seems to work just fine for killing paper. I loaded some 158 gr Berry's with 4.0 gr of the 231 in the 38 spl.

Anyone have any experience with W231 for different loads/calibers?

It seems to find its way on a lot of lists in the books I've read but just how effective is it?

4.7 grains works well for 45 ACP - lead or fmj.

      I like it for 147gr 9mm loads. Also some 125gr .38 Special & .357 Magnum loads.

I've tried it in other 9mm & .45ACP loads. It's OK but I always wind up going back to Bullseye and Green Dot.

4.3gr under a MG 124gr JHP works well.

There may be a load for W231/HP38 for just about every handgun caliber ever made. Great all around powder, I use it for my light target loads in .357M and .44RM.

I use Win 231/HP-38 for all the calibers I load with good results. I use it for 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 acp, .38 special and .357. I like keeping it simple and not having to buy several different powders.

                25,000 rounds of .40 w/ W231, can't be wrong.

It works well for me in 9mm & 45acp with my Dillon.

I use it now for 9mm, .38 Special, 40S&W, 45ACP and 44 Special it is probably not the best for each application but it works good enough for all the pistol chamberings that I load for, it meters nicely, and is readily available.

I use it for 9, 40, 38, 357 and 45. It is good all around powder. I like that I only have to use one powder for all those calibers.

If I could only have one pistol powder I would choose WW231

I have even loaded .44mag with it

That's the exact load I'm using for .38spl. Deadly out of my 3" SP101, scary accurate. Performs almost as well in my S&W 60, 67, 686. Use it for .45 as well. Good in 9mm, but I have not yet got it to be as accurate as Universal and Titegroup in 9mm, but i still have work to do to try and make it so. Hard to go wrong with W231. Meters great, plenty of load data, and usually available.

I've experienced good results with W231 for .357mag, 9mm, and 45acp. It's a good powder for across the board calibers.

231 is really good but HS-6 throws smoother
