    .45 ACP target loads

Post you favorite target load...I want to get some ideas on a load to test the accuracy of my 1911.

Not reduced loads that require spring changes please.

Whats your favorite bullet? (commercially available no home cast or mold #'s)

This one is my favorite for my 1911's.

      4.8grs of Bullseye.
SNS Castings 200gr LSWC seated so the bearing surface shelf is about 1/16" above the case mouth (on average).
Crimp to .470" at the case mouth (this will aid in feeding the SWC bullet).

You can probably go down as low as 4.0grs of BE without any major cycling problems with stock springs.

You need to be careful loading this as a double charge will not overfill the case.

Thanks guys, whenever i see target load data for .45 it usually consists of 200gr SWC and lead....hmmm

I would have thought jacketed bullets would be more accurate, ill order some lead.

Has anyone ever used the 200gr SWC from hornady?

200gr SWC make nice clean round holes. If your pistol will feed them, the way to go.

              SWC make such awesome holes!

I had 500 LSWC (200 gn) that would never cycle in my glock 21, I couldn't figure out how deep to seat them to feed. Now that I have an RIA tactical, I might try again and see if the 1911 feeds them. Would be weird if the 1911 does, but the glock didn't.

              Anyway, I like

4.0 grns of Clays (normal Clays, not Universal Clays or International Clays)
230 gn RN bullet, either FMJ or Berry's plated (I use Berry's currently).

Seated to 1.260" because I run Chip McCormack 10 round mags in the 1911 and the magazine had an insert that said "These feed best with rounds loaded out to at least 1.260"). I think the max is 1.275".

For the glock I used to load to 1.250, but I think I'll just go to 1.260 for all .45ACP reloads so that the 1911 will feed them with those mags.

I am shooting them out of a Springfield Armory 1911 and they feed fine, have never had an issue.....

LOL! Then try the loads and tell me if it's my shooting, or my loads!

4 gns Clays and 230 gn RN is a very common .45 ACP loading!

Depends what your purpose is... Just plinking or a single box to get a tight group? I use cheapy Tula, wolf for plinking and I use Critical defense for hd. I did run a couple boxes thru my Kimber to make sure there were no feed issues but it cost me almost 100 bucks.
