Reloading manual recommendations

I have some reloading equipment in the works.
I got Bruceflinch waiting on the sideline for my first reload experience. Ready to pounce at a moments notice.

1. Equipment, check.
2. Mentor, check.
3. Reloading Manual.....

Bruce has multiple reloading manuals, but likes his Lymans. He showed it to me and suggested that I get one as well. The how to section is good and data is great as well.

But I have to ask, which reloading manual do you have and why do you like it?

So far Bruces recommendation of Lymans is,

I like the Lyman to as it is convenient for not knowing your powders as it gives you a full description of all of the common powders on the market and tells you if they are double base or single or if they are ball, flake, or extruded which makes it a little easier to choose a powder to try for trickling or a powder drop.

Lyman's is excellent, listen to Bruce.

I use my Lee 2nd edition more for starting points for loads, but maybe the Lyman's if you buy only one.

I have Sierra and Speer. I prefer the sierra. I like the loose leaf format and the loads it lists seem to be more consistent with what I shoot plus there seem to be more bullet options in the Sierra.

The Lyman will be the next manual I get though since I have heard nothing but good things about it.

I have the Lyman, Lee and Barnes manuals. The Lee manual is excellent and probably my favorite. Both the Lyman and Lee have good safety info for the starting reloader. If you hunt in the Condor aeea, you'll need a Barnes manual too. You'll end up with at least two manuals, so don't sweat the first decision.

8x56r seems to be the only caliber missing from the Loadbooks USA collection.

Hmmm... doing a bit of searching it seems info on the x56r is pretty scarce...

I go to the Lyman manual most of the time since I shoot mostly lead. Checking the powder manufacture load data is a must as well. These can be found for free online.

I learned on the Hornady manual so I like that one but the Lee manual has the largest selection of loads and cartridges.

I always like having the manual of the manufacturer of the bullets I use. I like Hornaday Amax. So among others I have 2 Hornady manuals. But then again I have at least 10 manuals. Speer Sierra Lee and several of the books dedicated to one caliber.

This book has one load recipe for the 8x56 hug "cartridges from around the world" Also lee dies come with load data but from what I read online they just use Mauser load data for it.

Hope it helps Grafs and Sons carry the brass and bullets and the dies.

I recently picked up an old Speer volume 9 reloading manual from 1974. It was cool to read thru but had no more information than I had learned from youtube or here on Calguns besides the history of Gun Powder and the history of SPEER. The reloading tables are great and very informative, but the how to reload section taught me nothing new. I think that one manual is as good as another and all will cator to their products which is understandable. I definately enjoyed reading it, but I still don't think that a manual will teach you any better than reseaching online. I do love the reload data tables. In general all the manuals give different load data so one manuals starting grains will be another load manuals never exceed.

I have the latest Lyman manual and the only complaint I have with it is the sparse information for 9 mm, which is the only caliber I currently load. There is free load data on the powder manufacturer's site, though.
