    Car polish

So I know people are using Nu-Finish to clean their brass up nice. Any one use other polish? Any to stay away from?

I notice that my handloads if stored for a while start to get discolored and and finger prints start to come to the surface and look like they are corroding the brass a bit - not much just on visual inspection. Will using the polish help curb this? Or do you guys tumble again after you load the rounds?

What's wrong with NuFinish? It's available just about everywhere including grocery stores and drug stores and its about as cheap as any car polish anywhere. Something like about $6-$7 for a bottle. You don't want to use much (about a half capful) and you don't need to add it every time you tumble.

If you have "Alien" type sweat and fingerprints (the type that will corrode a stainless steel gun), just use latex gloves while handling the brass and reloading. You'll also be less likely to raise the lead level in your system.

It might also help to store your rounds in a ziplock bag or ammo box with a few desiccant packs in it.

I tried the NuFinish method. The brass does come out very shiny and smooth, but the media traps the powder and primer soot (lead) and gets dark and nasty much sooner. I'd rather have the dryer sheets trap the stuff and throw it away.

Zymol I heard also works well.
I just stick to the dillon polish.

Nothing I just have other stuff in the garage already...

Everything is stored in ammo cans with fresh desiccant packs

I dont know why it happens but you can clearly see finger prints etched into my brass after a few months....

Yup got the crazy acidic sweaty hands too... I started using gloves whenever I go near my press as it seems to want to rust from me waving my hand near it... I have used mothers liquid cleaning wax and just picked up a few bottles of rainx liquid car polish for real cheap $.99 a bottle and it seems to do better than the mothers.

I used some Frankfort Arsenal polish that came free with my tumbler, didn't seem to do much. I tried NuFinish and it does seem to help. I also use clean (used) dryer sheets as they seem to pick up some of the gunk and increases how many times I can tumble between media changes, also seems to cut down on the dust.

A buddy of mine first tumbles with walnut and then transfers them to a second tumbler for corn cob and NuFinish, wow, his brass always looks new. Doesn't seem to help on the targets, but it sure is sano...

I tumble after I load to get them all shiney again and get the case lube off.

Ummmm.... how 'bout Nu Finish AND drier sheets? Works great!

Nu Finish does leave a protective coating behind but I use gloves anyway for better grip & protection from lead.

As for OP, avoid anything with ammonia in it. Plenty will now chime in with "I've been using Brasso for years etc etc etc."

Fine. But with so many other products that work just as well or better why chance it?

Hey that is my secret formula.

Anywhoo, I used to wear gloves all of the time but I just wash my hands a few times. I do wear a respirator while pouring to avoid any inhalation hazards. Sometimes I add 1 inch squares of red brillo pads into the mix. I want to try a mixture of fine corn cob media to mix in with the walnut in the near future.

In case you are not joking, I hear that brasso MIGHT weaken brass because it's got ammonia in it. Possibly FUD.

Just mixed up a batch of corncob blasting media from granger and some zymol. After the clumps of zymol had gone away, the brass turned out beautiful.

I'm amazed that the internet has turned Nu-Finish into a magical reloading tonic that makes your brass look like it's chrome plated and causes you to shoot tighter groups. Is anyone claiming it helps with hair loss or Erectile dysfunction yet??

I just use about a teaspoon of "Wright's Brass Polish" or whatever else I happen to have around, works great.
