If the primers are not crimped, I throw the casings in right after firing. Then I resize and throw them back in the tumbler for 30-40 mins to remove the lube.

Deprime w/universal Lee die, tumble, lube, size, retumble for lube removal, clean primer hole while examining brass, prime, powder, bullet and box for future use.Comment

See, I guess I am doing it the hard way, but I tumble first, THEN deprime and manually clean the primer pocket. Then I prime, load, shoot, miss and do it all over again. I would never tumble after priming and especially after loading, but then I am a rather cautious fellow.Comment

Ok now that the batch I originally posted about went through the tumbler (loaded). They are no longer sticky with case lube. I now tumble, decap/resize, swage if needed and tumble again for about 20min or so while i set up for the rest of the process. Works great.Comment

I like to decap, clean the primer pockets and then tumble. After that I resize, trim, uniform flasholes, neck turn, etc and then tumble again to clean off the lube. Then I do all my case mouth prep (chamfer, debur and steel wool the mouth) and then prime, charge and load.
The reason I do my case mouth prep after the final tumble is because of the beating the case mouths take when tumbling. I like my case mouths to be very smooth.
I also like to tumble before sizing so that the brass is free from any grit and won't mar the inside of the sizing die.
As far as tumbling loaded rounds, from what I've read it's not a good idea. By tumbling loaded rounds, the powder can change consistency and cause pressure problems. Check out Varmint Al's webpage for more information.
With some brass I dont even tumble - I just wipe them clean with a Krazy Kloth and then proceed to size/prime/load.
All this is just my way of doing things. I am a low volume precision shooter. I reload only for bolt actions.Last edited by kmullins; 11-26-2011, 1:45 PM.Comment
