Ok, The LnL is worth it

Ok, you all win. After my initial horror with my LnL press I finally got my parts in and installed the screws on the press.

After getting done with that I had to re-adjust everything again from die seating to timing. So, it would appeart that the lack of the bolts was causing the sub plate to move un-noticed by me which was caused me to have to make all of the adjustments the first day. After making the adjustments back (again) it worked great.

The powder drop is smooth and accurate. Even with small loads it measures well and it measures well with Unique, which I have typically had issues with metering properly. I installed the PTX in the drop and I highly recommend it, it works great.

I put a powder check on station 3 (RCBS lockout) and was able to move through a bunch of rounds pretty fast and I would periodically check the weight of the powder dispensed (which was always good) and just for fun I would leave it empty to make sure it would catch it. It did, every time.

All in all, after finding my rhythm, I was loading about 300 rounds an hour and in total I loaded about 600 rounds of 40. Despite my initial issues and frustration, which I am beginning to think is the fault of Midway, not Hornady, I really like the press and I'm glad I got it. The only drawback to it that I can see is that I will now spend less time reloading because I can crank rounds out so quick on it.

I did buy a few extra things, such as the lockout die and an extra pickup tube so it makes loading primers a bit quicker since I can get 300 ready before starting but total was about $450 and I still need to get my free bullets.

Overall I'm very happy with it but still disappointed with the way the experience started out and, as I said before, I really believe my issues were Midway's fault.

Glad to see everything worked out, and the shipping seemed fast enough on your bolts... If i remember correctly you ordered them earlier this week? It sounds like Midway sent you a previously returned press, which is a bummer but its cool hornady will stand behind it anyway.

Just wish there was some way to compensate you for the lost time and frustration

I hope you'll like your LNL. I have found that once it's properly adjusted and maintained it will run like a Rolex. I have TWO. Good Luck!!!

I called on Friday and they sent them out on Tuesday, I got them today. Not the best but not bad considering I called on a holiday (veterans day). I can't complain, I got them and they didn't charge me.

As for the press being previously returned, I'm thinking that may be what happened. I looked at the shipping label and the press was drop shipped from somewhere other than where Midway is located. Since the guy from Hornady was so surprised/confused that the bolts were missing I'm thinking I may have got one that had been returned.

I happened to call Midway to have a copy of my invoice sent to me for the rebate, since it didn't come in the box with the press, and after the CS rep e mailed it to me I explained I was a bit concerned/upset with the way the press was shipped to me. It was missing bolts and basically all they did was tape the original Hornady box around the bottom, slap a shipping label on it and sent it to me.
She had a real flippant attitude and said I can send the press back to them and once they receive it they will send me another one. I basically told her no thanks and thanks for nothing.

Between my suspicions and her attitude I think they will now be the last choice when ordering anything I need.

The more I use it the more I like it.

I think the anticipation I had, much like you seem to have, is what made it so much worse that I had to wait another week looking at it waiting for parts.

All my BS issues aside, it will still probably take you about 2 hours to set it up. Watch the DVD or the videos from Hornady on youtube (they're the same) a couple of times and you'll be ready when it gets to you.

I also must say I really like their One Shot cleaner/dry lube. That stuff works like carb cleaner and leaves the parts nice and slick almost like you used graphite on them. I'll definitely have to buy some more of that stuff.

Everything should be smooth now, until you get a casefeeder for it...

Case feeders work just fine. (I have 2 of em) As with anything, set up and a few little tweeks later, you are rolling right along.

Not really, I drink the Blue Kool-Aid and it works straight out of the box, you shouldn't have to tweek anything for it to work as advertised. the frustration is the "Tweek".. but to each his own opinion

Watch out for those primer KB's.

Congrats on your Hornady Lnl AP. I've had one for several years and I still think it's a great machine. A couple of tips: You may want to use Dillon primer pickup tubes because they have soft tips and it's a lot easier to pick up your primers with these tubes than it is with the ones Hornady provides. Also, if you use the PTX you may want to get the adjusting bracket from Hornady. This makes it much easier to set the amount of case bell. Finally, if your getting that indentation that develops on the base of the frame, just under the primer punch, you might want to place a washer (or coin) there to get a more positive primer push/install. Here's a Youtube vid that I posted on my Hornady and at the end of the vid I show the adjusting bracket that I'm referring to and the coin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxuBWa16WeM
