Reloading Bench question

I put an 1/8-inch skin of Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF, also called "masonite") on top of my workbench. It has a real smooth surface, no splinters, and cleans up easily. And when it gets all dirty and crappy looking like all work surfaces eventually do, you just unscrew it and replace it with a new sheet.

I just bought one of those $300 work benches from Costco, it too has a butcher board top and HOT DAMN I'm just really tickled with it.

I know exactly which bench you're talking about because I was stand there for 5-10 mins looking at it and imagining what kind of stuff I can fit/put on that thing. Wish I had the funds to get that. Right now my press is clamped on a $20 table top from ikea haha. But hey, it works!

I would really like to have a dirt floor in the area I reload. I hate it when you drop a piece of brass or a tool and mess it up. Drop it in dirt and you just dust it off...

DO NOT USE PLASTIC ON YOUR BENCH! Think, gunpowder open, primers exposed or not, static electricity involved with plastics, not a good idea.

+1 Whalen bench

The Whalen bench on wheels with the overhead locking cabinets cabinets turned out to be a great purchase. I was thinking this was too expensive for what I wanted initially, but I liked the fact it was on wheels to move around the garage if needed. I was TOTALLY surprised when I went and picked it up, or rather tried to pick it up. I thought, from the pictures, this would be mostly pressboard with a strong frame. WAY wrong. Weighs a ton. This thing is pig iron all the way around to include the cabinets. Even the back panel to the cabinets is metal. This think is a tank and just perfect for reloading. Absolutely no play at all on my press with a down stroke. Key buy and a great investment.

I already thought about it, I am using my Whalen butcher block top bench like the ones talked about instead.

You would have to build up one hell of a charge to make a spark hot enough to set off a primer.

Smokeless powder is surprisingly difficult to ignite.

Safety is better but I think some of you are too paranoid about static electricity.

I need to make a portable bench for reloading in my apartment and I'm considering scrap granite for the top. Pretty much just because I can.

My biggest problem is tumbling, I don't think my neighbors will be too thrilled about that.

Wouldn't granite make it a little heavy for portable?

Somebody posted a thread awhile back. They made a insulated wooden box w/ vent holes to put their tumbler in so it didn't disturb the neighbors.

Well my idea of a portable table has a top about 18" square, a little weight will enhance stability, I don't want it to move so much when I'm loading.

If it weighs less than 150 lbs with two presses bolted up, I'll be happy.
