Cheap source for bulk corncob media (socal)?

I used the drill spot place. I live near a Grainger, it was delivered the next day. I bought the 14/20 size. The smaller flakes polishes great but takes longer, I would go with the lower grit if you need to really clean up brass or start with coarse walnut from harbor frieght.

The 14/20 size also doesn't get caught up in flash holes "AS MUCH" as others, but it still does.

I was told you can get both corncob and walnut shell media at pet stores in the area where pet bedding for cages would be and I found both corn cob and walnut shells there. I bought both and they do a great job but the corn cob gets in the cases of the 223 and is somewhat a pain to get out but you can shake it out but I use a flashlight to check every case before loading. If you use it for 308 or larger you will be ok. Right now I am using a mix of corn cob and walnut shells and it works good but when I change it I will be trying the corn cob media I can get at a reloading supply store.

I just tried the corn cob bedding material from Petsmart. It's really large in size, I can see how it would be a problem for .223. My problem with the size is that too much gets stuck in my Dillon Media separator.

I think I will get the stuff from Grainger next time.

That's where I buy all my tumbling media, they have corncob, walnut, etc. For corncop I typically buy 20-40grit which is finer than regular tumbling media and don't really have issues with it clogging flasholes. If I remember correctly, it's about $.40/lb, it comes in 40lb bags, so about $16/bag. If you want regular tumbling media, 12-20grit is standard.

Don't mess around with the pet bedding crap, it's more expensive and will clog shell casings, buy the right stuff. Also, I highly recommend dillon polish, it has a little bit of carnauba wax in it which prevents the cases from tarnishing soon afterwards like the frankford arsenal polish. When results arn't coming out as good as you would have hoped, try adding some mineral spirits before adding more polish. I run a cement mixer for a tumbler, and usually load it with about 35lbs of Corncob, and a 5gal bucket of .223 brass.
