I have been needing to get one of those. Any other concerns? What about bullet charges? My dispenser scale occasionally throws a .1 heavier charge. Should I bother rethrowing the charge?

For anything 600 yards or less +/- .1 gr won't make a difference (unless you're David Tubb) and will keep your load X ring or steel plate capable. For 800 to 1000 I like them to be within .2gr total. So I'll accept the load setting +.1gr. That's only to reduce vertical stringing.
For 300 yards in I just toss the loads. Even +/- .2gr won't make much difference for anyone but Benchresters.
Keep in mind most "non scientific" scales (the typical digital reloading scale) is only good for +/- .1gr anyway. Some are actually more like .2gr. So even if all your throws say they're the same, they might not actually be.Rob Thomas - Match Director NCPPRC Tactical Long Range Match

oh well, i just finished reloading like 230 rounds. hopefully, this will get my velocity variance down, and my groups tighter.Comment

In our game, we don't use no stinking wind flags!
In all seriousness, I rarely use my comparator. But I also use bullets that are quite tolerant of jump. I work up a load that shoots around .75 moa, gives a low ES with good velocity, and go from there. I'd rather spend time shooting than working up another load to squeeze out another .25 moa accuracy.GAP Team Shooter 5Comment

In that case, if you do anything beyond pulling a handle, you're wasting time at the reloading bench. In our game, we don't use no stinking wind flags!

Tell that to my 1000 yard groups. They usually hover around MOA (+ or - 5 moa
) with a 308 nonetheless. There's more than one way to skin a cat.
Live in a place where the wind averages 15+ mph and you get good at reading the wind.Last edited by rksimple; 10-22-2007, 1:27 PM.GAP Team Shooter 5Comment

Your primary source for wind reading should be mirage.
There are several times I've shot in conditions where wind flags, trees, and other vegetation have indicated one direction, yet the mirage was actually moving in another and the mirage was giving the true direction/speed of the wind.
If you've ever shot at WEGC, you'll know what I'm talking about.
If you want to practice wind reading, shoot in one of the rifle matches there. The WEGC rear firing line has only one wind flag and that's in the pits. So you have to rely on mirage for the best wind estimation. And unlike places like Camp Pendleton (Wilcox 103), where the wind is pretty much exactly the same everytime you shoot there (at least for direction and general speed), the wind at WEGC is almost always different match to match.

My point is that I've never seen anyone at a public range shooting off a bench adjust for windage. They'll talk all day up and down about how they weighed this and cut that, and then proceed to shoot straight away regardless of the conditions.Comment
