Interesting article. I'm going to try out a few of the methods as a home science project. Soak a few in each test medium for a day or two, then a five day "dry out". Then see wich still fire.

Motor Oil, Vegetable oil, Hopes #9, WD40, and Water. I don't have any Kroil or that would be on the list too. If anyone has anything else to try let me know. Thanks-Tom.

I see the above approach as a win/win. Ideally you can test all of them, thus you will have a ton of anecdotal information to post here and most importantly you will have deactivated all the primers (one way or the other), so you can then throw them away with a clear conscience.

Just load the primers up in some cases, fire 'em off at the range, and have some noise-makin' fun!

I had a thought. Hows about taping them to paper targets and shoot um with a .22. Get some quality target practice in and get rid of them at the same time?

Hell, I might try this myself. I got a box of primers that where the wrong size that I bought by accident and been wondering what to do with them. )

Put in ear plugs and eye protection and smack them with a hammer.

lol that's what I have been doing. I wait till I see a Coyote around, grab some bad ones out of the drawer, and smack them with a hammer. No more Coyotes around after that!

Whats the safest way to dispose of unfired primers? I tried burning a few and that definitely was not the answer. I've got a mix of about 75 that need to go. Thanks-Tom.

WD-40 will neutralize them in short order

My sugestion is to call a gun range and ask them what they do with all the rounds off ammo that don't go bang. I would then ask them if they would take the primers if you put them in a primer tray or seat them in some old brass.

What brand and type of cleaner? The only orange cleaner I have at the house is the goopy hand cleaner.

"DEPP" available at homedepot in a spray or 1 gallon bottles.

Yes. there are enough in each to do that. I was thinking of taking the "dry out" batch and setting them open end down on paper towels for a week then giving those a shot. -Tom.
