I bought a brick of winchester xpert .22 hollowpoint from wally world a few months ago, the stuff that was recalled. Winchester sent a call tag for it and then a coupon for 30$ worth of ammo that I just cashed in at wally world yesterday. So if you have any of that recalled stuff, call winchester!
I just bought some from Walmart literally two days ago, just to try out. Obviously, not from the recalled batches though.

Is the Federal VP slightly lower powered than Remington and Winchester's .22LR?

The Federal champions are. They usually come 525 to a VP. They won't operate my mkII nor mkIII. Their recoil impulse feels very weak by comparison to the Rem golden bullets and the Fed VP in the 550 round boxes. I'll dig around in my data books. I chrono'ed a bunch of 22's out of my 5.5 inch mkII. The champions weren't all that peppy.

That explains why I occasionally get stovepiping on my Marlin 795, whereas this doesn't seem to happen with the Remington "Golden Bullet" .22

It appears my Marlin prefers the fuller powered rounds. The Marlin will feed the Aguila Maximum Hyper Velocity (1725ft/sec) ammo without missing a beat.

Yeah, I saw the recall notice on that in the latest American Rifleman -- possible double powder charges.
