    Powder for 45 ACP

    Hi,
Can you suggest for what the good powder is for 45 ACP? I just got my RL550B and try to reload 45 ACP with 185 gr and 230 gr bullet.
    Thanks in Advance.
I want to pick the powder at Delmar gunshow in this weekend.

    Thanks,
    Tim

I'm just in the process of starting to reload .45 as well. Though I haven't tried any of these, I heard good things about WST and Titegroup and will probably will end up trying them out.

Win231 or HP-38 (SAME POWDER) perfect for 45 ACP. Meters great. Good luck finding 231 at DELMAR. I have checked the DELMAR fair for the last 3 years and they never have it. AND, i'm gonna try again Saturday.

I've also heard good things about W231/HP-38. I bought some but have not tried it yet because I was working through my 8lb of Unique. Now that it's gone, I will be trying W231 soon... I have only used Unique for pistol so far but every round goes bang and it seems inexpensive and relatively easy to come by.

I was using Clays and it was ok. I just made a couple hundred rounds using Titegroup and was very happy with it, metered a lot better than Clays...

231 is about the perfect powder for .45acp and works very well for 9mm as well. I have tried Universal Clays and while it gets better velocity in most cases it is not as accurate or clean as 231.

I've heard nothing but positive reviews for W231. My first purchase was 2 lbs of Bullseye which I'm waiting to try out.

Love Win 231. Comfortable from min to max loads for me.

                      Bullseye, W231 will work fine.

                      My favorite is VV-N340.

I have tried both Titegroup and W231. My 1911 prefers 4.4gr of Titegroup under a 230gr plated round nose bullet.

There are so many good powders for the .45acp, It would be hard to go wrong.
As mentioned, Unique,231, Titegroup. Unique is never a bad choice, but lately, I've been using "Clays". You will not get top velocity with it, but you WILL get very good accuracy. I shoot Clays for paper punching and plinking; its a good powder.

All of the above. I started and stuck with Bullseye when powders were hard to find. It's cheap (in 8# jugs) and always available.

Friends shoot W231 and VV with nothing but good things to say about them. I'll be giving the VV a try when i pick it up this weekend.

Also comparing W231 and Bullseye side by side, i'd say they both smoke alot, but that never bothered me.

I bought an eight pound jug of W231 and finished loading 100 rounds for the range tomorrow. It metered perfect through the powder measure on my Dillon 550B. Verified every tenth round on the RCBS 1500 electronic scale. Hopefully it will shoot as good as it loaded.
