Anyone know if there are any safe ways to remove a live primer other than taking it to the range and shooting just the primer off?

When my neighbor asked what all those crates were, I told him if he sees smoke coming from my garage, and me running down the street......he better catch up!

I just use the size and de-cap die and move the lever slowly. I have never had a problem doing this, hundreds of times. When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."Comment

As stated, use the de-cap die!...with liberty and justice for all. Void where prohibited, offer not valid everywhere, price may change. See Big Brother for details.Originally posted by zfields9mm might expand but .45 never shrinks! If you shop at Amazon.com please use the link below. Just punch it out slowly and you will be fine.IF it goes off it will only give a small pop which may atardle you but that is all. I have had one 50bmg primer go off about 2AM when everything is real quiet. Made me jump alittle but did not wake up the family.
Do not worry about it just punch them out. I have friends who reuse them but I just throw them out myself and insert a new one.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...
I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

When I first started out reloading, I decapped live primers slowly. Then I realized that "slow" or "fast" doesn't matter. As long as you are not "hitting" the priming mixture with a striking action, it ain't gonna detonate. So, I started decapping them live just like I would spent primers: fast & smooth. In fact, I've even inadvertently smacked quite a few in that time as well, with no *bang*. Several hundred decapped live primers later, I am beginning to think that primers will only detonate from impact coming from the rear of the cup! (There is also the method for those that just can't handle the idea of running a case w/ a live primer through the die: in your garage (with the door CLOSED!) wrap your muzzle with a shop towel, chamber the primed case and fire it. You'll get a little, muffled "POP" and a little puff of smoke as you remove the rag. I've even done it with 50BMG primers. A little "bigger" 'pop,', but still doable in the home/garage as long as you muffle the muzzle. Without the rag, it basically sounds like a firecracker. And the CCI #35's (50BMG) sounds like a really LOUD firecracker!
