I am just starting to get into reloading. I want to start with a single stage to learn what I'm doing. I've used the RCBS rock chucker once before and was thinking about getting one. They seem a lot more expensive than some of the other brands. My question is, is the RCBS rocker chucker worth the price?

RCBS rock chucker worth it?

YES worth every cent. Also you should buy the KIT if you do not have the other stuff already. You are smart to start with a single stage. I still use mine and I started in the 1960's reloading. I have used turrets and progressives but most all my reloading is on my single stage presses. Batch process your brass and it goes fast. The first thing to do is buy the Lyman reloading manual and read it. That will answer most questions. If you are near me I would be happy to help you out and show you how to load and set up the dies etc. If not and just want some answers/help/advise just contact me and I will be glad to help. If you are reloading pistol brass be sure to get Carbide type dies so you will not need to lube the brass. The Hornady(also lyman/redding) press kits are also excellent. "I" am not a fan of most lee stuff and their Warr just plain sucks compared to RCBS/Hornady. Be sure to get a hand primer. You can prime while watching TV as part of the batch processing.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

The Rock Chucker is a superb press. You will always have a use for it, even if you decide to move up to something like a turret or progressive down the road. It will last many lifetimes.
The market of reloading equipment is very competitive. If any of these brands were not worth what they asked for them, they would be out of business in no time.
Whether the Rock Chucker is worth the extra money over something like one of the Lee single stage presses, only you can answer. When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."Comment

I use a Rock Chucker too, and if you find you dont like reloading you can get your money back out of it.
I found mine on Craigs list with everything to be able to load 45acp for 150.00 and i seen another one just like what i got for 150.00 on there. and i should of got it.Comment

Best single stage press IMHO. I have one bolted to the same bench as my Dillon 650.Comment

Found one at a garage sale 2 years ago. The guy let it go for $40.00 and it was clean. It was the older style with the straight handle. Called RCBS cause I wanted the handle with the ball on the end. I was going to buy it, but was told they would send it to me as an up-grade of the press. Awesome customer service.Comment

Yes, they're very good and very strong. I understand it was originally designed for swaging bullets out of spent .22LR cases ("RCBS" = "Rock Chucker Bullet Swager"). Bill Steele's statement about the competitive market for reloading presses is true. Whichever way you end up going, you'll get a good press."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"

I thought I would never part with mine, but I was wrong. Found an old Pacific for 20 bucks and sold the chucker. If I hadn't got the Pacific, I would definitely still have it.
Not sure if a newb needs it though.
I also have a Lee Reloader (their cheapest) that does plenty good service as a dedicated crimp/deprime/odd job station. I would be happy to load on it if I had nothing else.Left, not "liberal", not what gets called "left" in American politics, Actually Left, like the government shouldn't be set up to favor certain groups, radically and fanatically left, like the ideas in the American Constitution (except that crap about 3/5ths of a person).Comment
