    slide not going into battery

I shot a box of factory ammo out of my Glock 20 with perfect function. I loaded up some new starline brass with Berrys 180 grn bullets and an OAL of 1.26. All of the rounds fired but some of them wouldn't let the slide go all the way forward. The slide came about a quarter inch short of being in battery. I would hit the back of the slide with my hand and push the slide forward and then the gun would fire. Does this sound like the OAL is too long?

That happened to me with a 1911 and the reason was that I was crimping too much and it was causing a little bulge in the case. Which dies are you running? I was able to dial down the crimp on my Lee Factory Crimp die and they all started chambering perfectly.

Could it be that you are not loading them hot enough for the slide to function properly? I had that problem with my S&W compact 9.

Had the same problem with some 45acp I loaded. I reset the crimp die and checked the adjustment by pulling the barrel and doing a fit check. Easy fix, good luck.

There was plenty of power. The crimp sounds like a good place to start.

I was using Win LP primers and 8.5 grns Longshot. It felt stronger than the 200 grn CCI Blazer ammo I shot. The Blazer ammo shot extremely accurate.

That's how KB's happen. Gun fires out of battery or nearly out of battery. Be careful how you load. Remember that the slide and barrel need to stay locked together until the bullet leaves the barrel.

8.5gr is the minimum 180gr charge for LS, but like you said, it should have enough pop to cycle the slide correctly. Try loading them at 1.250 OAL, and see if that helps. Mine doesn't feed certain bullets at 1.26, so that may be it for you too. I have fired a couple hundred rounds of 9.2gr LS/180gr @ 1.250 through my stock G20SF with no issues.

Change one thing at a time, so you can narrow it down to the main issue.

                  This ^

Pull the barrel, drop in a factory round. Drop in one of your reloads and it won't sit flush in the barrel. It could be due to the brass or the bullet.

I had this happen with some of my cast bullets. They were only oversized in diameter by about .0005", but after sizing they dropped right in. The cast bullets I got from missouri bullet didn't fit either. After sizing it was better, but the shape of the bullet still didn't let it sit flush. My cast bullets have a sharper point, or ogive.

Have you used these bullets before in this gun? If not, try a different brand and it might work for you. Otherwise, try the other tips listed above. Some guns don't like certain bullets, apparently.

My load manual shows max OAL @ 1.25. I personaly load quite a bit lower then that. Could also just be the shape of the bullet at that OAL opposed to a different profile.

I recently ran into an issue with my CZ. at far under max OAL, and lower OAL then some factory ammo I had, was running into firing out of battery and blown cases. Turned out the shape of the Berrys 124g was less tapered, and causing the issue.

Do the "push test" to see what your chamber size really is, then load it a touch deeper.

use barrel as a gauge or buy a case gauge and check them as you load as others have said crimp too much or not enough will cause this

Check the new brass in the barrel with no bullet, than with a bullet at 1.26, than 1,25.

                          Which one doesnt work?
