    Trimmers

I'm looking for a trimmer for precision .308 & .223. I also shoot standard .223 for three-gun, but I want a trimmer to cover everything.

I looked at those Giraud Trimmers, and those are perfect, but the price is a bit of a shock at $425.

    What are you all using?

I use an old drill press. I thought I had pictures but I can't find them right now.

I use the RCBS electric trim pro. I have trimmed many cases, and no problems with the unit. (actually bought mine used.) still sorks perfectly.

I've used Dillon's RT trimmer for .223 and the Lee drill powered lock with trimmer guides system for .308 and 30/06. They worked well (sub MOA ammo). If your not putting a crimp on the rounds its not crazy important that they are dead on with one another unless your separating your cases by weight. Even with the tools mentioned they are pretty consistent.

If you want ultra precision look into the lathe like trimmers from a lot of the different manufacturers...

            Dillon for plinking......Giraud for precision.

Take a look at the Possum Hollow trimmers. Use a Wilson drill adapter and you can trim hundreds quickly and easily. Caliber specific. About $25.

The Gracey trimmer is just as good (IMHO) as the Giraud and $100 and change cheaper.

The Possum Hollow hand trimmers do a pretty good job and can be chucked in a drill press to make it faster but they are still a 2nd level choice to Giraud or Gracey for best quality trim work.

The Giraud, Gracey and Possum Hollow index off the case shoulder. The Giraud and Gracey also chamfer and debur and trim all at once. The Gracey & Giraud are far superior choices over a standard collet trimmer or the Dillon Power Trimmer, both of which index off the case head and leave square cut case mouths with sharp edges that make it harder to seat bullets and can scratch/gouge the bullet jacket unless you debur in a separate process after using a trimmer like this.

If you are trying to load for precision I more than highly recommend a Giraud or Gracey if you want the best, and the PH trimmer if you can't afford the best but still want something a cut above the rest.

I use the same setup as this guy in the video.

Forster 3 in 1 Case trimmer. Trim, Chamfer, Deburr Cases in one step
                  Forster Original Case Trimmer Kit
                  Forster Power Tool Adapter

The possum hollow trimmer does not chamfer or debur, still needs to be done separately.

Ouch, I had been under the impression that the PH trimmer did chamfer and debur, Doh! I lower my recommendation on it by a 1/2 point then, BUT it does index off the shoulder which is the best way to do this, unlike collet trimmers and the Dillon one do.

Yup, I chamfer aftr using the PH.
Use the same Wilson drill adapter body.

From what I've experienced the Dillon trimmer does square the case mouth however I've personally noticed and have heard from other users that the squared case mouthes do not need to be chamfered and debured once trimmed. I've seen perfect cuts with no burrs out of thousands of rounds and have taken cases I prepped with and without the chamfer debur process and noticed no difference in group sizes at various ranges

The way I see it is I can size and trim brass and skip the chamfer and debur and bring my process from 2 steps to 1. But, this is just what I've experienced.
